Dunlop A2's wearing out fast...?

My 96 SE/Auto has A2's with 16,000 on them. They were dynamically balanced at installation, and the car had a full alignment. I've just rotated them for their third time now and was shocked to see the difference between fronts and rears after the last 6000 miles since they were rotated last. The wear is even and with no cupping/feathering. This is my wifes daily driver, and she has a 55 mile roundtrip highway commute and its also our traveling car so routinely gets 200+ miles on the highway one weekend a month....very little city driving, and no light to light drag racing either. My wife gets into the gas from time to time, but certainly doesn't drive like a teenager....and sadly neither do I any more. At this rate I don't see how these tires will make it past 40K. A friend of mine with a 99 max is seing the same problem to a worse degree - but he hasn't rotated them at all in the 15K he has on his. I have heard of Subaru AWD's chewing these tires up fast but not normal FWD cars - and sadly think I will be looking at replacements long before the 60K rating. Is the HP of a Max just hard on tires...is it our driving...or is the rating misleading...? My full size Chev has a 60K rated Bridgestone....and at 32K on them they look great....

Thanks
JB

Thats simple. Dunlop sucks.

No really,.......Dunlop sucks. It all depends on how you drive. Also, the ratings don't really mean anything unless you get a warranty with it. I've got just of 10K on my Michelin 205/65/15's and they're are over half gone. They are Warrantied for 70K so I'll be getting some discount on my next set.

The reason why they wear so fast is becuase the compound is very soft. This is why they give such good wet and dry traction. I don't know about the snow, but I soon will and I'll report on that.

Dunlop doesn't suck.

That's why I went with the Yokohama Avid T4. These tires are fantastic! It feels like I have had them forever. I put over 250 miles a week on these tires and they just keep going. They handle well, great in the rain and the ride is comfortable. They are by far the best set of tires I have ever owned. I thought about getting the Dunlop A2's but considering the reliability and wear of the Yokohama's, I've decided to purchase another set after mine wear out.

The Sprot A2 was a lovely tires when I had them new but after a year they wore out and one exploded on my at 70 mph. I posted a thread a while back about the A2's and I'm not the only person to find that these tires have borderline quality. They stick like glue which is a plus but you will have to keep your eyes on these tires.

I have Bridgestone RE950's now but they still don't seem to grip like the A2's.

Don't know much about tires, but is the T 4 anything like the V 4?? I have the V 4's with about 30,000 miles on them, and they have become so loud that I feel like I'm in a damn helicopter. My passengers routinely ask me if I've already got my snow tires on. Are there any tires out there that performa as well or better than these that remain quiet. I dont care about the $$'s anymore i just want my quiet ride back!

The Avid V4 is a 45,000 mile tire (softer rubber), the T4 is a 60,000 mile tire (firmer). My experience with the softer rubber tires is that if you don't stay on top of keeping the air pressure regulated (29-32 psi), they can become damaged and make noise. The T4's are very quiet and I keep them at (29-31 psi). They are wearing very well and evenly. And don't let anyone tell you that they won't handle as well as a H rated tire. They handle just a good, if not better! And they are nicely priced at around $54-56.00 per tire on Tirerack.com. You won't find these tires priced as low as this anywhere! I've tried looking. Most local tire shops want $80-90 a piece!

I have a set of A2's on my car and am VERY hard on them in the corners. Love to turn fast. They have about 15k on them and are still holding up strong. Lost about 1/2 the tread but still good. As for the snow, they did very well last winter through the MD winter (bad one last year). I guess the VLSD helped out alot too though. I would definately get these tires again in a heart beat.

I always have used Dunlop A2 Sports...and I love em!
I did have one set only last 12k miles, but that was due to an aligment issue, so just make sure you rotate and balance em every other oil change (if you by em at Sears, they'll do it for free...prob have to pay for labor)
Also, Dunlop has a 50k mile warranty (even tread wear only)
