Gen. Tire Question -- Ok to replace just one w/diff tire?

We have a '02 Elantra and the driver side rear tire has a tear in it from a piece of glass. I went to 2 tire stores here and they said I must replace it with OEM Michelins or else the car will pull. Or, I could replace them w/non-Michelins but then I would have to replace BOTH the tires in the rear. This is according to the guys at those stores.

Is it ok to replace just the one tire with a non-Michelin all season tire? Will there be problems w/pulling etc.? I thought I'd ask here before I fork out $125 on tire for a 15" rim

Please reply..I need to get this taken care of fast! TIA!
