So I've decided to get new wheels for my max...
none other than evo5 I'm leaning towards the 17X8 one since 18+ will get destroyed by the pot holes. I'm also strongly leaning towards Kumho 712s since this set will be for the summer only. I need help choosing the size:
235/45/17
245/45/17
245/40/17
255s?
Will 245s fit on 17X8s? Will there be noticable difference between 235s and 245s as far as handling? 245/45 will fill the wheel wells better but 245/40 will handle slightly better? Is 245/40/17 too small? I have 2k SE and haven't lowered it yet, although I plan on doing that in the near future.
My max came with 16" wheels, 215/55/16. Does that mean that my speedo is based on that size or are all 5th gen speedos based on one tire size? 225/50/17 perhaps?
Any comments/suggestions would be helpful.

Well, I'd go with 245/45-17. It would be as close to your stock diameter as possible. Supposedly 245 will handle a little better then 235, but I doubt you'll feel any noticable difference in daily driving. 245 will perfectly fit 17x8. Ride on 245 will be softer vs. 235. IMO 245/40-17 will be too stiff.

If you're REALLY going for 17's, go w/245/45-17's. Kumho's are great ABOVE 50 DEGREE WEATHER. (which is good since they will only be your summer tires)
i highly suggest into spending another 250-300 for 18's. You wont be satisfied w/17's.

18s aren't an option for me since I live in the north region, rochester NY, and you will not believe how many pot holes and how large those pot holes are. I've talked to many people who have destroyed their 17" (prolly lower profile rubber than 50 but still... ) wheels during the winter months.
As far as going with evo5, those are the only 17" rims that I liked in my price range at tirerack.com. I really don't like chrome wheels, flashy wheels, and wheels with 9000 spokes; I like elegant look. Most other online wheel/tire venders look really fishy to me and most they carry are ones I've listed above that I wouldn't want. Slammed, feel free to make recommendations: 2k SE, stock, sterling mist.

I love the looks of my wheels, but for reasons listed above I want to switch to 17" with 245/45-17 tire size. Btw, my current tire is 245-40-18 - which is big enough, but still stiff. Plus I'm still on stock GXE suspension, imagine what's gonna happen with stiffer suspension.
Im partial to 18's due to the fact that i had 17's before my evo's. My gas mileage has actually increased, and my handling is better than my 17's (for some odd reason).
I understand the conditions of the roads, but the driver has to be careful as well. Oh well...good luck w/your evo's!
