Confuse about PSI, help

Hi,

I have a '94 GXE.

Under the armrest, there's a sticker that recommends the tire size be 205/60/15 with 29 psi.

However, I have the Goodyear Viva Touring bought from Walmart that's 215/70/15. What should be my psi? Normal driving. Don't carry much, except for a subwoofer.

Thanks.

Same pressure.

Why did you get tires that are two sizes too big?

Max pressure should be on the tire. Compare to max pressure on stock tires. My recommended pressure is 32 and max 36. Probably the same (29) for you, just stay below the max on your tires.

The Max pressure listed on the sidewall is really not related to the proper inflation pressure for regular driving.

Thanks everybody.

I've settled on 30 psi. Less than such, my tires would squeak on turns. More than such, it would be too rough of a ride. Happy at 30.

Yeah, I thought my tires are over sized. When I bought them at Walmart, they didn't have my exact OEM size. The sale person said that the 215/70/15 is fine. Everything is okay. It's just that my fuel econ dropped from 30 mpg to 23 mpg. The other side of the coin is that I feel much safer driving in the rain. But again, the last time it rained in southern California was like 10 months ago.

Thanks again for your help.

According to http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html your new tires are throwing your speedometer off 8.8%. That is way outside of the recommended 3% maximum variance. You need to go back Wal-Mart and make them give you the right size tires. Then never go back there again.
