it is not suggested to put 235s on 17x7s, but plenty of people have done it.

235/45/17 will fit fine on a 17x7. I just had it done last week, and I highly recommend Continental ContiExtremeContacts!

I asked the tire guys about all the hype around doing it, and he said that they do it all the time. It's actually their go-to replacement size for our stock tires.

And plenty of people are idiots.

A BMW runs 225's on 8" wide rims. Granted, a Maxima is not a BMW, but I would take a hint.

The 235 on a 7" wheel means that the sidewall will prob roll over a bit (not sure of the correct "term") in hard cornering. That loss of traction is definitely a bad thing, but I'm not sure how much it would be, nor how much tire pressure affects that...
