Rumors of SSR's True?

I've been researching the SSR GT3's and i have been reading alot of post on other forums w/ people complaining about how soft the SSR wheels seem to be. Has anybody else heard about any other complaints. I know they are forged aluminum which i thought was very strong. I know my wheels right now are cast aluminum. Are my current wheels stronger than the forged aluminum wheels

Huh?? I have SSR Integrals -not available any more, methinks- and after 2.5 years, they are still perfect. Now, they have not taken any major hits of any kind but still, no warpage, no bending, perfect.

And just to be technically correct, SSRs are 'semi-solid forged' wheels, meaning the alloy has been heated to a 'hard plastic' state and then it's hammered, forged, etc.

Yea I've heard of SSR rims bending easily. I bought a set anyways and no problems for years. If I remember correctly, updated version was stronger than the previous version.

Hehe, yeah I beat the crap out of my Integrals (probably shouldn't) and they have stood up to it all without a ding.

My brother running JICs with higher rate springs (9/7) on a 2000 Eclipse has bent 1 of his 17" SSR Integrals, a 6" section of lip shifted upward. He had been running those rims for about 2 years.
Now he is on 17" SSR Competitions and has bent the crap out of 3 of his rims. One front looks pretty warped, the other two have some dings in the lip, but they can all still ballance out. He has been on these rims for 3 months.

Honestly, if his rims don't hold up, I'm going to tell him to get Volks the next time around. They really are a hell of a lot stronger. I'm on 18's with no dings and no problems in the past 3 years.

But honestly, the biggest factor is how stiff your suspension is. My brother's is about the worst I've been in, hitting your head on the ceiling over dips, every pothole feels like you broke something. Easily 2-3 times stiffer than my Eibach/Koni (at full stiff setting)/Stillen sway/Subframe connectors setup.

How are these guys "bending" wheels. I don't believe in bent wheels unless you HIT something that comes in contact with the wheel and dents it, in which case ANY wheel is going to be dented. Rims are not made out of silly putty, even though different manufacturing methods produce different levels of strength, the force needed to actually bend a wheel is huge, and would likely bend any wheel. I've never heard of any wheel being "bent" without coming in hard, physical contact with something like a curb, huge pothole, etc, in which case any wheel is going to bend. The chances are like 1 in a million that you would hit something at that perfect velocity to bend one wheel, and yet that impact would leave another wheel perfectly fine.

Patrick aka Triple8Sol recently bent one of his GT3's. Can't recall all of the details, but it wasn't a "major" impact.

Had my SSR-C's for 9 months now....and hit plenty of potholes during city driving....and some of them very severe....haven't had a single problem with them....i do fill them up at 47psi to keep the sidewall stiff....

maybe SSR rims are a 50/50 situation with their customers? some bend easily and somt last forever...

It has alot to do with road conditions in your area. I live in Louisiana which is pretty bad and on top of that i am running coilovers with really stiff springs . I have been on my axis wheels for a year and a half now and have hit some pretty vicious stuff and there is not a scratch on them and i am running 35 series tires. If i am going to have to always worry about bending wheels then i dont think they are worth the hassel even though they look hot as hell.

Here in Seattle you can't not bend rims, especially when you're running 19's with 35 profile. It's inevitable.

I've only driven on my SSRs for about 9 months, but I've never bent a rim. Our roads in michigan are some of the worst in the country, though I can't remember ever banging a pothole with them. I try to avoid them at all cost of course and thus far I've been successful. I know a guy who has had about 5 sets of SSRs, I will ask him if he ever bent one. He lives in VA though, not sure what the roads are like there.

MD/VA roads are much better than ours. Lived there before. Nothing like Michigan roads.

I never bent one of my GT3s...BUT I was too scared to drive with them on most of the time. It was because of this type of thing that I ended up selling them just months after I bought them. For a huge loss I might add...
