235/40-18 the way to go?

Hey y'all,

I'm about to pop some 18s on my '99 GXE and I've been wondering what size tires to get. One of my boys said 235/40--but those numbers mean nothing to me. Is that the right size?

Also, any brand recommendations would be nice (I'm willing to spend up to about $100/tire).

Thanks.

Up to $100? That's going to be tough, and it'll limit your choices. I think for the most part, you'll be looking at about at least $125 each, or course depending on the size and brand. It seems like a lot of guys here on the org. recommend Falkens. I would also look into Kumho's as well, because I've heard that for the $$$ both of those are pretty good. Call around, or check tirerack.com, tires.com, or 1010tires.com. Good luck!

100/tire for 18's isn't enough IMO. On a 4th gen, 235/40/18 is the closest you will get to stock size with an 18" rim...just make sure the wheel is wide enough to support the tire (7.5" +)

For 18's, go with 235/40 or 245/40. Don't listen to those people saying to use 45 series with those widths.

And you may want to rethink your budget. Any good tires will easily cost $150 or more each. Considering they're the only thing keeping you on the road, don't be cheap.
