Wow. 7/32 left after 38,000 miles!?!? The tire starts out with only 11/32, so you've really been easy on those skins!

I had 7/32 left on 2 of mine and 8/32 on the other two when they were replaced due to splits at 21,000 miles (as I recall). And I thought *I* had taken good care of my tires!

Posted this in the tire section but:

Went to the Goodyear shop to have a slow leak repaired and they showed me that all four tire were cracking on the inside walls. They called the corp office today(Monday) and Goodyear gave me $172.00 credit per tire. I was impressed. Replaced them with a set of Dunlop Direzza DZ101s. They look great, ride smoother and firmer and the handling feels better. I paid a total of $100. Considering I had 30K miles on the RSAs I was very happy with the credit Goodyear gave me for the tires.

I just checked mine with 16K on them and I don't see any cracks on the outside. I'll be watching them like a hawk though. I can't wait to trade the suckers in, they are a little noisy for me.

I have an 05' and never had any cracks till I hit a pothole and had to replace one my RSAs. The new one has a crack and I am keeping my eye on them. I am definately going with Michelin when I need new tires!

I first noticed the cracks on the insides of the tires when I took them off to paint my calipers. My cracks cover about 20% of the inside of one of the tires and only noticed outside cracks when I took them in to get checked for warranty. Another tire had a few small cracks on the inside and not on the outside. I have about 26K mi on these. They were going to pro rate the tires as 7/10 left.

I decided I would say so long Goodyear and make the switch to Contis.

Read this two days ago Looked at my tires yesterday. Found cracks on 3 out of 4. Went to the Goodyear dealer. They took my tires as 40% wear even though I had only 3/32 thread left (about 21500 miles on the car). Got a set of new F1s for almost nothing. Sonds like a good deal. Have driven on F1s only few miles so far. Don't know if I like them but they were the only option. BTW, how much do you guys inflate F1s? The dealer put 38 psi and it felt kind of soft (I had 36 in RSAs). I increased it to 40. Will try it today.

I have 38 psi. in my F1's. Its a different ride than the RSA's. You will get used to it. It s a quieter ride. There are options as some of the replys stated.

Good luck with them.

From what I was told by a CSR at Goodyear many months ago (when I first inquired about this), I was told that the "batch number" had nothing to do with whether the tire was from the defective run... dunno how true that is though.

Anyway, I just got back from the Goodyear dealer (the nearest one is 30 miles away) and I showed them the cracking. He said that they could ONLY replace them with RSA's (not even another Goodyear tire). They are apparently at 6/32 at 29.1K miles. They said that they would prorate them and so I could buy 4 more tires @ $67.xx a tire. They based the pro-rate off of their retail price of $269 (I think), but they can be had at TireRack for $200. Also, they wanted to charge me $10/tire for mounting...

I really don't want another set of RSAs. For those of you who have been able to get a different tire (even another Goodyear-brand), what did you have to do? Did the local dealer allow that or was it offered through Goodyear cooporate?

Thanks!

WTF. Call this number and ask to talk to a rep. I paid about 223 total and I have over 36,000 miles on the car. They are not supposed to charge you for mounting the tires. Other members were able to change thier brand of tires at a goodyear dealer.

BTW did the dealer tak to a rep or just told you this BS. I had problems with my rsa twice second time I paid the difference for F1's and no problems since.

Keep in contact, I want to know what happens.

Thanks for the feedback Warren. Yeah, he got the info from a rep. I don't think he called the same number I called since he didn't have to navigate the automated menus (I believe he called their claims number?).

Anyway, I'll give Goodyear a call on Monday.

Thanks.

I'd been putting 45psi. 38-40 seems kinda low(sidewall really close to the ground). F1's AWSOME!!

OK, after calling that number several times I was told that Goodyear doesn't set the price (by law) but that it's up to the individual dealer to set the price. so, I called other dealers in my area and they said that I was getting about the best price I was going to get (since they all base it off of Goodyear's MSRP). So, I called back Goodyear and asked about replacing with a different tire... they said that yes, the dealer has to offer that option as long as it is another Goodyear/Kelley/Dunlop/etc tire. So, I asked about applying the $201/tire credit to a Dunlop Sport 5000M (as suggested by NismoMax80), and so now I'm only going to pay about $30/tire.

Goodyear also said that they only expect the tire to last for 30K miles, and that by "only" paying 25% of the price of a new tire at half the tread (6/32) I was getting a good deal. Even after explaining to them that I wouldn't be looking for new tires if they weren't splitting on me, they wouldn't budge or offer any other advice.

So, I'll be getting some new tires in about 1.5 weeks.

Well, it's been 1.5 months now, and my new tires *still* haven't shown up. They keep telling the dealer that they are on the next truck to town, but mysteriously they never show. I'm going to call Goodyear tomorrow and complain.

Update: After calling Goodyear to complain a while back, they called the local dealer that I was dealing with and discussed the situation. Apparently, Goodyear had *LOST* my order (a CSR blamed it on their computer system... what a joke). So, after losing my order, they called the local dealer back and said that they'd have to reorder them. After I heard this from the local dealer I call Goodyear to see when they would be shipped out... they told me that they should be here by the 27th of December (a Tuesday) or so (since it was Christmas, they might be delay a little because of the holiday rush though). So, I patiently waited and called the dealer on Thursday of that week. He siad that they hadn't shown up yet, so I called Goodyear again and they said that apparently the person from Goodyear who had called the dealer (informing him that they had lost the order and needed to reorder) should have instructed the dealer to call Goodyear back in order to reorder the tires (how stupid is that?). So now I've been assured that the tires have been re-ordered (for atleast the first time; I'm suspecting twice though since I was quoted a shipping date after they had first suposedly been reordered).

Anyway, that last time I spoke with Goodyear I tried to press the cost issues (they want like $60/tire + mounting and balance; I'm going with some cheaper and perhaps better Dunlops for about $20 each) since I've been driving around for nearly 4K miles after they dealer first noticied the cracks.

Now, should I pursue some other form of action? Perhaps the BBB since this is a safety issue? This is really irritating.

Thanks!

GoodYear RS-A Tire PSB #2007-10 Finally.

May be old news but Goodyear is replacing all RS-A tires per the PSB#2007-10, must be DOT Serial date: 3104's and earlier, if you already got them, get your receipt in for reimbursement.

Just want to add to the thread by saying that the stock 16" stock RSA tires on my old '99 had sidewall bubbling issues. At the time, Goodyear had a crappy warranty policy so we didn't get much from them.

Just last year I had bought used 17" RSA's and all the tires had sidewall cracking issues.

I Just got a letter from Goodyear Tire Company

They say RSA tires have an extended warranty, if you already replaced them, send them a copy of the purchase with case number and problem of your tires and you will get a full refund, I just did mine and I'm getting all my money back.......thanks!! I replaced my tires because they had cracks all over, and they had 40,000 miles on them.

Hello all,

I bought a used '04 about 2 months ago. Today I got a letter from Goodyear saying that if I have cracks in my sidewall on my RSA's, I can get them replaced for free til 12/31/07. Anyone else get a letter like this? Does anyone know where to find the serial number on the tire?

Now I don't think I actually have cracks from my own visual inspection, but could one use the tire value as credit towards purchase of different tires? I hate these tires already, but this seems like an opportunity to either replace/get rid of them...

Having just had my Max two months, I'm in the same boat as you. I just went and checked my tire and the serial number is easy to see in the daylight.

I had Pirelli's on my other car which I loved. These tires don't come even close to the Pirelli's.

I'm happy. Goodyear just sent me a check paying in full for my 4 new Toyo Versado tires.

After I found cracks I had them replaced immediately. Didn't even go to a Goodyear dealer. I didn't want RSA again. No thanks. Then Goodyear contacted me and I sent them the bill. I received a check covering all my costs and letter of apology from them yesterday.

Okay with me when someone admits a mistake and then tries to fix it.

Bill

I have not quite hit 40,000 miles on my '05. I noticed a cracked sidewall last night. I am having my tires replaced with Continentals at the moment. I figure I am at the end of the suggested tire life anyway (tread depth is prob still ok). I'm glad that I found others who are having the same problem though.
