wheel Q -- if it fits on a Lexus...

Well this is specific to my '04, so I figured I'd post it here rather than fiddle with other folders...

I have a friend that traded his Lexus (GS 430) for a Denali (long story) and he pulled a set of nice 18s from the car before he traded it in. AFAIK all of the Lexus models up to now have the same bolt pattern as the Maxima, but he knows jack about them other than that, and I'm interested in the wheels but I won't have a chance to look at them for a week or so.

Now is it fairly safe to assume that the wheels will fit just fine, seeing how the offset "should" be between 35-42 from what I've read? I know the stock 18s on the SE are 40mm, but let's assume for the sake of argument that these things are some weird offset like 42 or 38 or something... what am I looking at in terms of look and fit? Will they just not fit right, look bad, rub, etc if they're off by +/- a few mm?

I might have to take off from work early one of these days and head down there just to see what's up... I only saw them mounted on the car a couple of times and they were nice, but I didn't really pay too much attention to them.

TIA for the answers!

No kidding? Wow. I gotta say, you have the hottest rims on here. Love that fat look.

I almost bought rims off of IS300 so you shouldn't have any problems.

What does that mean?? That only means you almost bought some wheels with a hub more that's too small.

To answer the question above, Lexus wheels and wheels that fit a Lexus should have the right bolt pattern at 4x4.5. BUT Lexus uses a hub bore smaller than Nissan. Nissan is 66.1mm. So oem wheels = no go w/o mods. Aftermarket wheels = maybe if the maker uses a large bore and uses hub rings.

It means that I didn't buy it because my buddy bought a set of Hagens off an IS300 and they fit fine

You got lucky and your friend must have used wheels that are non-hubcentric.

So what if the aftermarket wheels are machined to the Lexus hub bore? Or what if he's using actual Lexus wheels??

Those Hagens were used w/ hub rings on the IS300. My buddy just had to get different size hub rings for his Max.

I guess my point is: Are all aftermarket wheels use hub rings like the Hagens? If not, it's hard to flat out say "yes they will work".

Most aftermarket rims have bore big enough to fit many different types of cars. Only reason why I use hubcentric ring is to reduce vibration when my car is traveling. If you dont have vibration problem, hub rings are not really necessary.

I sort of forgot about this thread after it got moved off the 6th gen forums... guess I should subscribe to it now...

But looking at the posts, I'm not sure I'm any more/less certain that they'll fit fine now than when I first started. Oh well...

I'm headed over there probably tonight or Friday to take a look at the wheels and see what's up. Hopefully I can get some info from them or maybe even try and fit one in the Maxima and see what it looks like.

Pictures and a follow-up will be available whenever I get around to going there

FYI, the info I have says the center bore of the GS is 60.1 mm.

Just turn the wheel over and mesure the hub bore.

I'll try that and see what's up... right now it doesn't look like I'll get to check them out until at least Sunday, which sucks.

A couple of details though... they ARE aftermarket wheels. He says that "he thinks that they're Diablos" -- they're collecting dust in the basement of his other house since he took them off the Lexus, so I don't think he knows too much about them anyway.

All I know right now is what he told me, and a faint memory of what they looked like last year when I last saw them. Hopefully they're in good shape and they fit. If not, then so be it.

And if they don't fit right for some reason, I might still convince him to part with them and put them on ebay...

Just to close this up...

I went over today and we drove to the Goodyear store over at Green Acres... they checked everything out and mounted them with no problems. I had to get a couple of things (lugs and locks) but they fit like a glove.

Pictures are here:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=391642

FYI, they're Diablo Viennas, 18s. Tires are 245/40. He tried to have them mounted on his Accord coupe ('05 6-speed) and they rubbed badly when going over bumps and had them taken off the next day.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
