5000 mile first rotation update: Falken Ziex ZE-512

Regarding my 6 month old Falken Ziex ZE-512
on my 17" stock rims SE 2001, I could not be happier after 5000 miles. I think I paid like 106 a tire at Discount Tire, Austin TX, installed, minus the roadhazard which was like 8 bucks per tire.

First set to 35k, stock potenza's everyone knows suck **** and can kill you.

Second set up to 65k, my Nitto Extreme 450's were extremely hard rubber compound, noisy and finally one blew a friggin' side-wall going 15 MPH down a neighborhood street, thankfully not on the highway running 85. Nittos were better in rain than the stock death tires, but they'd slip on dry on a good turn. I would not have purchased them again, but they didn't completely suck.

Finally, my Falkens, I forgot what my engine SOUNDED like running the nitto's and welcomed that lower cabin noise and engine growl back. These tires have so far been perfect in all conditions, heavy rain, dry pavement, and they're sticky and quiet, and the treadwear looks very reasonable given their love for the pavement. Much better handling / performance than nitto. No need even mention potenzas, they aren't tires, they're suicide balloons. I will buy these again, and again, and again. My highest recommendation!! so far...

Hey, just wondering how the falkens are in snow. I live in Albany, and it snows plenty here. Thanks!

Snow? Not sure....

Sorry, I got mine soon after moving to Austin TX 6 months ago, and it doesn't snow here more than once in 10 years. But in rain they rock, on dry they rock, and I can't imagine they wouldn't be AS GOOD as others in this category in snow, but i'm not sure.

They are very good in the snow. I had no trouble getting around a foot of snow on the ground here in cleveland. I had my tires for about 7000 mi, and I can't say that they are quiet at all. They are very noisy turning at slow speeds.

I had em in the snow here in the DC area and up in the mountains in western VA... I personally think they're pretty good in the snow, for an all-season tire... I have 235/45/17 tires on my stock 17s....

I doubt it, but I honestly can't tell ya... I had em put on the same time I dropped the car on my HPs/Progress.... feels fine to me, I think I still have decent ride quality compared to other dropped cars I've been in ....

How much air do you put in them? Other .org's say 34psi up front and 31/32psi in the back is a good combo.
