need new rubber.......... thinkin Bridgestone Potenza G009

i need to get some new tires for my stock wheels since there is not much left and winter is "just around the corner". my dad keeps on me about it. anyway. i need 205/65x15 for my 98 and was wondering what i should do. these are the only wheels i have now, but plan on gettin a nice set of rims in the early spring, so these will be solely winter tires. i know i should buy some good winter tires, cuz in UT it snows pretty heavy. but i dont want something that looks like they should be on a f-150, i want something that looks nice. you know. and im think i want to spend around $60 for something with good quality all around. should i get a grand touring all season tire or a strickly winter tire? help me out guys

A winter tire will outperform any all-season tire in snow. An all-season tire is a disaster waiting to happen come the spring rains. (The rubber compound that causes the all-season tread to stick to snow also keeps rain sticking to the tread, which is not what you want on a nonsnowy day.) Also, on snow, you are better off with a narrower tire (65 series or so) than the wide tires (55 series or 50 series) that are cool for dry roads. If your budget is tight, I understand why you would want all-season tires, because you do not want to run winter tires year-round, but you are compromising at both ends. If you can swing two sets of tires within the next six months, look at mounting Toyo Observe winter tires on your 15" rims now, then get proper 16" or 17" rims in the spring with three-season, aka "summer," tires. Next spring, store the winter tires with your old 15" rims; then, a year from now, you again will have the Observes to mount for the snow, and won't have to pay a tire shop to switch tires on the rims.

well thats what i was plannin on doing, was gettin some new tires now for my stock rims, and i was actually going with some 19s in the spring. but i think im going to get some all season tires. im thinkin that if they are soley a winter tire, then they will last for a long time, and if i should sell the max or if something happens and i have to sell the rims/ tires a part from the car, then i think the all season's will be a better sell.

now does anyone have a suggestion as to which tire i should get. i was looking at Bridgestone Potenza G 009. decent price for a good lookin tire, any experience or insight here?

Dunlop Wintersport M2 or M3....good winter tires....good snow/ice traction and good dry performance.
