275 or
275 or
So I realy want to run 275/40-17 Mickey Thompson ET Street Dadials or 275 Nitto 555's or on the front I need a 17x9" rim. What offset do you think will work? +35 or so? Any recomendations on an inexpensive 17x9 that isnt a brick and looks a little like my SSR Comp Anthracite with machined lip.
Or would any one be interested im purchasing my SSR's Comps? Their in pretty good shape, some normal scratches and nichs, no curb rash. They have 255/25 Pilot sports on them that have a little life left in them. What do you think they are worth?
Has anyone gone wider in a tire than 275 in the front? Nitto makes a 315/35 17 555r, I'd need a 10.5" wide rim.

I've been doing some reading on other sites and have now seen a number of people saying that they personally have 275 BFG, Nitto, and MT DRs on 17x8" wheels. Based on the fact that these guys actually HAVE them on there (not just some friend of a friend of a friend of a friend that said they might work) I'd say it wouldn't be a bad idea to try it.

Matt/glude - for reference, here is a 17x8 wheel with 245/45/17 rubber on it and 35mm offset, so you can see how far it comes out....no rubbing at all, even on the hardest autocross turns.
If you're going with a 9" wide wheel up front, 35mm offset is probably the most appropriate as well, though it will stick out past the fender a bit - though I doubt that rubbing will be a problem in drag applications
17x8, 245/45/17 Hankook R-s1's (shaved), 35mm offset:
sorry I don't have a better pic, but you can see it fine here:

Glude, here is how much room around 6th gen calipers/rotors setup:
I have 17x9s +34 I run for the track. With 255/40s they stick out about 5mm in the front but have not ever rubbed. I should know how the 275s fit if a few weeks, well it depends if I cord the race tires next weekend at a Z track event.

Matt my car is torn apart right now I'm doing some things to it so I haven't driven on the tires at all since we last talked about them.
Neal, in your travels have you gotten any info on how long the MT Radials last. I havent seen any info, just a few guesses at 2-3K miles on the street. How about the Nittos and BFGs?
I've got no numerical info on the MTs, only heard that they last "less" time than the BFGs. A buddy of mine just got the MT DRs on his 600whp T/A, but he's only had them like 2 weeks so that doesn't tell us anything.
The BFG's on BriGuyMax's 460whp 350z have lasted him 5500 miles so far, they are worn slick now (no gooves left) but not corded yet. Infact they work best when worn totally slick, they basically get stickier throughout their lifetime. His driving style includes railing on the car every day, quite a few nights of street racing, and two trips to the track but no burnouts. They hook or scratch for traction in 1st gear depending on the road surface and temp, and then are dead hooked the rest of the time... so that 5500 miles are pretty much miles with no "spinning" going on. Being as your car has more power and is FWD, I'd expect less life out of yours, but if you only drive your car on the occasional weekend and trip to the track, then even if they only lasted 4000 miles for you, that could be a year or two depending on how much you drive it. I don't know how much you drive your car and when you do, how much flooring of it you do (or would do, if you could get better traction in 1st and 2nd gear).
My friend with the 600whp TA had 275 nittos before he just got the MTs a few weeks ago. His 275 Nittos only lasted him 3500 miles before cording he said. That includes him driving them pretty hard all the time, spinning 1st and 2nd gear on the street, and like 30 passes at the track all with bigtime burnouts. From others, mostly mustang guys, I've heard of them lasting up to 15,000 miles, but generally about 8000-10,000 miles, though I guess these guys must not be as hard on them as my buddy with the TA was.
I put about 500 miles on my Nittos before parking it in the garage and taking some stuff apart that I'm changing, and there is absolutely no noticeable wear on the tires. That 500 miles includes the 25 or so street launches I did that I described back a few weeks ago in my thread, which is a pretty fair amount of abuse, and about 350 miles of highway driving.

Mardi, I placed 255 tires with 17x9 35mm offset wheel in the front before with no rubbing issues.
I'm running a 18x9 30mm offset with 245 tires right now that rubs slightly if it hits bumps at full lock. Hope this helps

As you can see they poke out the fender well a bit. Im sure on big dips in the road I will get some rubbing. I have my coil overs at full height and full soft for now. If I firm up the rebound in the front that might help some. I have not realy ever driven the car like a sports car just a drag car so the clearance is not too much of a concern to me. I have ~ 1" of clearance from my coilovers. At full lock they rub the fender well, so I adjusted the stop bolts on the spindles so they dont turn so far. No test drive yet. Im in the middle of my spring paint cleaning, polishing and waxing. I have an alignment apointment this wekend so hopefully I can report back on how well they stick by early next week. I think I will be able to do full throttle in 3rd and maybe 2nd too, that would be awesome. They look very tough too. Gotta love the Meguiers NXT tire shine too!

Got the alignment done. Camber is -0.5 at rest and 0 when the front is lifted a few inches. Toe is set to 1/32 in and goes to 0 when the front is lifted.
I beat on her a bit on the way home. 1st still spins but its accelerating, scratching for traction versus stand still wheel spin. I can put allot more throttle in it as I modulate 1st. If I bang into 2nd I can spin them but they still scratch and accelerate. If I roll into the throttle in 2nd at low rpm they hold like a champ! Third is dead hook no matter what. I can feel the added mass compared to me Pilot Sports which are as ligt as they come. Breaking is also a bit different because of the added mass. When I got back home I checked the treads. Their was some light pealing and all the molding thingies that stick out were gone. I think I will be lucky to get 5k out of these but it will be an awesome 5k miles. At the track with lower air pressure I think I can make these hook like my slicks. I think consistant 1.9 60's and maybe 1.8s if the track is hooking is possible. But since these are allot heavier they may kill some MPH on the big end. I realy wanted these so I didnt have swap tires when I go to do test and tune runs. Once I get the set up right and/or a bid event is at the track I'll of course switch back to slicks.
