Tire size for 17 x 7" wheels

Tirerack recommends a 215/50/17 which is 25.5" tall

I see a lot of guys are running 225/50/17s which are 25.9" tall

I have been looking at 225/45/17s which are 25.1" tall

I have always run tires smaller in diameter to help acceleration (slightly) but everyone seems to be going bigger.

Pros and cons of going bigger in diameter??????

17x7 is the OEM size wheel for the 5th gens and those come with 225/50/17 from the factory. Many guys run 235/45/17 as well.

Has anyone run 225/45/17 with Tien S techs? I have 225/50 and that's already bone jarring. Looking to loose the Tokico Blue struts for something adjustable, which I'm sure will help. Any thought or recomendations?

Seems like the problem is the S-techs/Blues combo, not the tires. I've had Progress/Illuminas with 235/45/17 tires on stock rims and it is not that bad, even with the tire pressure at 38 all round.

Btw, here's a dated but informative post about different tire sizes for the stock 17 rims:

I just put a set of Toyo Proxes4 225/45/17 on a set of 17 x 7s, and although I can't comment on the speed/acceleration difference, mainly because I dont notice one, I will say that I LOVE the performance of the tires ... and although the wheels are a big improvement over stocks - of course - I think the car (96SE) would look better with 18s + 45s or even 19s + 40/45s. Sometimes my 17s with the 45sidewalls seem too small ... anyone agree who has 2XX/45/17s?

I run 17x7 on my accord(03) and have a 225/45/17 but I like the 8" on the max with 235/45/17.
