Yokohama AVID V4S:Any good?
Okay, its almost time for the snow up here in the northeast, and my tires are pushing 15% tread all around. I have Goodyear Eagle GS and they are terrible, so i'm looking for an upgrade. I went to my friendly Town Fair Tire and they quoted me 129ea for the Yoko AS430's. I got a quote for $88 on the V4S'. I'm leaning toward the AVID's but still would like opinions of anyone owns them.

I have had the Avid H4S for just over a year and quite like them, but they haven't been exposed to snow or ice as yet.
I don't think I would be running the Avid V4S in too much snow or ice.
Wouldn't you be better off getting dedicated summer and winter tires, or else an all-season like the BF Goodrich Traction TA that is good in snow and ice.

I have them but I live in FL...a lil noisy but thats because the tread on them is nuts and will most likely last forever. On a side note consumer reports rated them the best bargain for v rated tires but gave them the lowest rating in the snow. some food fo thought.

i've had them on my 2001 I30 last year..but i sold them since i upgraded my rims to 18's. Now i'm pushing kumo's
my original size for my 16's were i think 215 55 16 but when i bought the tires, i opted for a 225 55 16 thinking that the extra 10mm on the tire tread will make a difference in traction. well it back fired in the snow. Traction in the snow with these are horrible but overall driving on dry pavement and little rain rocked! I remember spinnin out on 4inches of snow on the ground; even when its fresh powder. I would sometimes get stuck on a small hill if i was at a stop light in snow. Stopping distance in the snow with these tires are horrible as well! That same day it snowed and left about 4 inches of snow on the ground, I tested them out on an open parking lot, went 35mph then slammed on the brakes. It didnt stop till about 25 to 30 feet.

You're not supposed to slam your brakes on snow/ice. Just about any tires will lose traction if you slam your brakes from 35 mph. Thank God they invented the ABS for idiots.

i have them, softer sidwall than the stocker's but over all i like them...and the tire wear is nice.
no snow or ice yet (might not see it...the 88cherokee has new bdg muds on it for winter and mud duties )

I've had them for over year now, with 12,000 miles on them. They have worn poorly even with rotating and balencing. They probably have about 50% or less left on them. The side walls are to soft for me and they don't do to well in the rain. As for snow they are a little better than the stockers.
