Good cheap tires

Good cheap tires
I'm trying to find some good cheap tires. This is for the stock 16in rims. I don't do any racing, just regular old street driving. I went to the tire shop here and they wanted $128ea. I thought $256 seemed pretty expensive for two new tires but they said that was the cheapest they had that would fit.

Avon. look them up on www.TireRack.com

Bridgestone G 009's from Tirerack.com. Great tire for $99 each (plus shipping and mounting, so might be better to get a price match locally)
Bridgestone Potenza G 009

The Fuzion HRI aren't looking too bad. How are they in the rain?
Anyone have any thoughts on hankook ventus H405 HR II?
Both of those are around $60 in a 215/55/16 size. The Hankook's I can only get at tires-easy.com anyone ever bought from them before?
EDIT: Actually the shipping on tirerack is cheaper so if the Fuzion are > or = the Hankook's it looks like they will be my tire.

I run Falken Ziex 512s and they were only $110/corner. Reasonably grippy all-season tire, but I wouldn't rely on them to last 50k. But then again I prefer a tire that can stop the car, not just last forever.

I also have the fuzions. For the price they are great. They have good wet and dry traction. Haven't been able to test them in the snow though. I only found 2 problems with them. I bought them in october 2005 and they already need to be replaced so tread wear isn't all that great if you have a heavy foot like me. Also the wet traction gets worse as they wear. I have maybe a month left on them before the wear bars show and for the past 3 months the wet traction has been horrible.

I've got the falken ziex's andI've never had any problems. Never hydroplaned once and great stopping power. The tread is starting to get reallow after a couple years and I know I need to replace them, but they still haven't failed me once.

Most of these brands I wouldnt dream of using. Crappy tires are just that. Buy something decent, not the bottom of the line.
My dad has run Yokohama Avids since day 1, 3 sets so far. I have always liked them and they are pretty cheap. Check them out in the V speed rating.
Also you live in the NE so pick an all season if you plan on seeing snow. Also the 225/50/16 size opens up some more options.

I agree with bridgestone potenza G 009s i boughtmine for 59 a piece ( worked the price matching game) and are good tires. i didnt buy them at tirerack but i did look at the reviews and the ratings on the tires at tire rack. expectially the snow rating on these tires.. great tracktion in wet and snowy weather

I also agree with whoever said the Falken ze 512's
I have a set and not only it is a great handling tire, but they
are extremely quiet for the price. Much quiter than the Kuhmo's
I use to run. I also had them drop shipped from Vulcantire.com
and had a local tire shop put them on.

Sutter said it best. I have the Yokohama Avid TRZ & love them!! Don't be cheap with tires. Falkens are directional and junk. They tend to wear the corners and get loud after about 15k. We replace them regularly and most owners here hated them. (but they are CHEAP!)

I had the kumhos on my maxima but now i have Michellin energy MXV4s HUGE differences in ride, but the Kumhos are solid tires for the price. The falkens are awesome tires as well. Its tread pattern really helps out with the hydroplaning and giving you controll when it rains. These tires i had on my Civic and they were great. Do your rotations, your alignments and checks your PSi and the falkens will last, if you don't do it, you have no one to blame but yourself. Pure maintanence of tires. FALKEN ZE 512 FTW, you can go get them at SEARS where i werk at =P

I used the reviews at TR.com to get an idea what I wanted. When noone locally could match or beat the total cost of the G 009's from TR, I went with them. Great so far, and I'm looking forward to winter.

Dunlop Sport A2 Plus, paid $73/tire got free mount and balance.
Been riding on them for just over 4 years, just purchased my 2nd set.
Very smooth comfy A/S tire that handles well and lasts 40K miles.
Even at the end of the tread, the tire rides smooth.

i'm getting a set of fuzion's on my 97 max... i sort of didn't have much of a choice tho, i've got a broken foot, so i'm locked up at home... mom took my car to the shop to get the oil changed and 4 new tires put on.. i told her to tell the guys to put on some good summer performance tires.. but when she called me back to say that 4 tires and an oil change, plus some more stuff, will cost 300, i jumped on it... sounds good to me.. i know they're not "the best money can buy", but given my current situation (medical bills and stuff), i need to find a compromise somewhere... i've gone from pirelli p-zero's mounted on 18" italia inox wheels to stock wheels and the fuzion's... ok, the p-zero is a little exagerated, but that's the biggest name i can think of at the moment... but i realy do want a set of the italia inox wheels.. dey's a-purdy!

I have fuzion hri in 225/45/17, and i have no complaints whatsoever. They grip VERY well in the dry and i haven't lost control in the wet, although i don't push my car whenever its not dry. I recommend them to anybody, great tires, look beefy too.

ugh... bit of a dissappointment, i thought i might be getting the ZRi's, but after some research on tirerack, it looks like i'm getting the ho-hum HRi's... because they don't make the z's in 215-55-16... oh well..... on a side note regarding tire size, the tires that came on my car when i bought it were 215/60's.... exactly how much of a difference will it make if they go back to the original 215-55? will it even make any difference at all? i mean, i know its such a small difference (i don't know how much, but its just one size up, right?) at first, i thought all 215/60's were winter tires, because on tirerack, the first 5 tires that it shows are winter tires (first time i noticed it, i didn't bother looking at the rest of them)...

I might also suggest dealing with larger used tire places in your local area. While I know some might think thats a dumb idea, I'll tell you right now, as one of the old school Org members, Many times you can find the deal of a lifetime at such places. I've found 90% tread Goodyear Eagle HP F1s for $45 mounted and balanced. Toyo Proxies for the same price, same amount of wear.Dunlop Sport 9000's, Yokahomas, etc. It definitely can't hurt to look around. You'll find alot of tires in your size. I was having to shop for 235-45-17s.

exactly, good and cheap doesn't exist, people crash their cars and than wonder why. Personally I always try to go for the best not the most expensive or the cheapest but the best. Thats just my .2 cents. But as everyone else say I'm sure you can find a deal somewhere online.

Yeah, I have the Hankook. They have been good. Being replaced by Cooper Cobras which have been better. Currently one Hankook seems to lose air quicker than the other tires. Has about 10k or less mileage left.

I am very happy with the Michelin HydroEdge. Very good grip, excellent wear, excellent wet weather, very good on ice and in snow. I paid about $110 Canadian at Costco + installation which I done myself.

BFG traction TA speed rating T, thats what i got. $92 a pop at NTB. but if youre only getting two, you have to get the same tires you have on the car. otherwise the difference in the belts and treads of the tires will cause your steering wheel to shake a hell of a lot.

go to discounttire.com type in your tire size, probably 215/55/16 and read about them. for more tread life look for a UTQG of more than 400 with a treadlife warranty of at least 35k. get a gran touring or all season tire which tend to be cheaper than the summer tires everyone is telling you to get. they will most likely last longer too.
i would recommend buying the 10-15 dollar tire insurance. they give you a new tire if you happen to blow a tire (accidentally or on purpose) its definately worth it. ive gotten a total of 7 tires for the price of 4 so far on my Kuhmo ASX.

225/50VR17 Hankook Optimo Plus II - V-rated
60k mileage guarantee @ PepBoys for $500 installed.
This is on stock 5.5 gen 17" wheels.
Your 16's would definately be cheaper. They also carry the same tire in a H-rated, so that would decrease overall price as well.
Great wet, dry, and snow traction. Been driving on them for 12k now and have NO complaints.
