What couldve caused this tire damage?

Alrighty. I believe what I found to be the problem of my thud thud thud. Rear tire damage. I know, I said it wasnt, and thats what it wasnt last I checked my rear tires. Well tonight, [actually last night to be technical], I check em again. This is what I found:

The spot is soft, very thin and obviously, the tire is bad. Like my dad put it, "looks like someone put acid in your tire." Any idea what might have caused this?

Heres my photobucket with 3 more pics: http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ro90/My%20car/

wtf? Maybe when you parked somewhere there was a puddle of some sort of acidic compound on the ground?

Not sure man. My dad called our friend mechanic this morning, and he said that there is nothing mechanical on the car that couldave cause it. He said that he also wanted us to bring the car to him so he could look at the tire because he has never heard of something like that.

My car does sit at school for oh, 8 hours sometimes, my dad thought that someone may have vandalized my tires(this is on both rears, the pic is of the left one, the right one is bigger), but I was like, what couldave done that? Your talking like lots of HCL or chloroform. Haha, they missed me with the chloroform and got my tires.

Looks like you parked the tire on top of a fire pit

That is definitely some sort of chemical reaction that occurred with an unknown substance, the rubber and other compounds within the tire. Something mechanical is very unlikely to cause deterioration like the above pictures show.

Yikes, that's not right! I hope you find out what actually caused it, and maybe you can get some free replacements from the tire's mfg...

Best theory I could come up with, I would suspect someones blown up battery. Parked in a puddle of battery acid would be the most resonable cause. If someone poured it on the tire you would be able to see where the acid ran down the tire after they put it on the tire. Since the spot is small and localized the puddle theory works.

From the looks of the pics your tires were about done anyway.

Dont have the warranty, recipt or proof of mileage('cept for teread). Didnt come with the car when I bought it.

The mech said it would be Ok to drive on around town. No highway. He also said if it starts to get dangerous(tread seperatin, etc...)then it will get louder.

It might be acid, but don't think it is battery acid. After all, battery acid is incased in plastic so it doesn't react with plastic so I doubt it reacts with tire rubber.

Please add more to this thread than this. At least attempt to give a solution to the problem. However, it is a nice way to get your post count up.

I guess I am doing the same. Sorry, OP.

Yeah, but you're over 1,000 posts. He's at 18. Anyway. back on topic.

Seems like the sound is getting more annoying, louder maybe. Now I need some cash for tires.

That sucks cuz thats a tire with a 100K mileage warranty, if the company you bought it from offers a road hazard warranty then that tire should be pro rated. You should go check it out cuz I know those Z-800's are not cheep and maybe you can get into a new set of Terevos.
