I had just purchased a set of Motegi dp12 18/7.5 offset 45. They were at a fabulous price on last years stock sale for a dealer only sale. (Final sale)
My car is not lowered nor do i plan to as i like the stock ride comfort.
So it's either 235/40r18- many choices but is 13 mm smaller diameter and i would hate the void in wheel well on stock suspension
The better choice tire is 235/45r18. but there are only 4 tires that are made for this unpopular size.
Now i know there are 3-4 guys that have 245/40r18 tires on 7.5 wide rims. Is that really bad as it is below spec? (spec is 8 inch min). Also do they look too fat or oversized for 7.5 inch rim?
Is .5 above spec that bad?
Also what about 245/45r18? that is ok spec for 7.5. Will it rub on stock suspension?
What do you guys suggest?

 

245 is a bit wide for a 7.5. it's gonna looked bubbled over. If anything id run a 235 on there for a more "recommended" size to it. 225 would be more ideal but go 235. as for rubbing, thats a negatory. you will be fine.

 

There might be some rubbing issues on 18' tires....you'll need a good lift for those.

Just messing, on the serious note, for 7.5" wheels, 235/40/18 is probably what your going to want. 245/40/18's might bubble over, as stated above and would probably look weird w/ out some sort of lowering on a 7.5" wheel. 40s for 18's is also good for the speedometer, as it will keep the overall diameter of the wheel and tire in factory specs.

Go with 235/40/18, that's appropriate for a 7.5" rim. 245/40/18 really needs a 8-8.5" rim for best performance. 235/40/18 is available in alot of tires (toyo proxes4 are my suggestion).

Do you think that it will leave a hudge gap in the fender well as they are 12 mm smaller than stock diameter (i think)? that's with stock suspension and as i said i am not planning on dropping it

 

use the tire calculator in the Sticky section of this thread and figure out what is best for your tire size compared with stock.

 

They are actually a little larger than stock diameter.

 

From the Miata website calculator it says
Stock diameter :656.8mm
New size:645.2 mm
So it's 1.1 cm smaller

 

so does anyone if 235/45R18 tires will rub on stock suspension
also if 235/40r18 will look a big gap in wheel well on stock suspension?
Please i am trying to decide and not spend $1000 on tires and look ugly

 

235/45 is going to be fairly tall and throw your speedo and odo off in the long run. to get the most accurate data, get the size that is MOST closest to stock sizing. either size, its not going to rub on stock suspension. youll have PLENTY of room all around. the car will sit kinda high due to the 18's so its youre call; even with the 235/45. youre best bet is to lower slightly with maybe H&Rs or Tein H-Techs.


good lord! $1000 just on tires?! wtf. i spent half as much if not less on tires for my 18s that will probably perform just as well.

 

Hey i've got 235/40 18s on my 4th Gen I just put on. The tires were take offs from a Volvo S60R from work so i need new tires. I found this thread while searching, just wanted to ask the author what size he ended up goin with because i agree i think i might need to go one size taller like a 235/45 but don't want any rubbing issues. I want to lower eventually after my wife has the baby so do you guys think 235/45r18s won't rub on lowered springs?

Or should I just stick with these size tires for now? I should mention to the author i have zero rubbing issues with these 235/40s and they actually appear kinda small imo but its prob cuz of the wheel wells.

 

huge *** pic FTL. youre mileage and odo readings are going to be off with a 45 aspect ratio. stay with the right size, suck it up and just lower the car. we gave you good information in your own thread. why didnt you take that??

 

What drop would you recommend for me Mr****s? I loved slammed cars but this will be for my wife and the baby so what do you think?

 

keep wifey+baby with comfortable ride. so maybe H&R's or H-techs with Illuminas. not a big drop but the more comfortable of the aftermarket suspsension setups. like we mentioned before: SEARCH is your friend. there have been countless threads on comfortable suspension drops. but keep in mind: ANY aftermarket suspension is not going to be soft and comfy like stock. and also the lower you go, the stiffer its going to get.

24s lol. I crack up when i see A32s come in with 20s and hella spaced out so it don't rub on the struts lol.
