Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum - Any Experiences?

Need to replace A/S tires on my '97 GXE (225-60-15, Steel rims). Currently have BFG Traction T/A H's but they don't last (30k at best) and are pretty crappy in wet or dry snow over 1/2". My Maxima is my commuter vehicle and I'm looking for a well rounded H-Rated, or better, all-season tire that can handle the weather we get here in Eastern PA. (between Phila. and the Poconos and as far West as Harrisburg) Staying home in bad weather is not an option.

The LX Platinums look good on paper (V rated, 10/32 tread depth, siped tread blocks, 60K mile warranty, good price, etc.) but even on Tire Rack, I can only find reviews on this tire up to 15k miles.

Anyone out there have experience with these tires over 15K? The tires are pretty new, were introduced at SEMA in '07. Am also open to other tire suggestions.

I just ordered 4 of em in 245/40/19 for my A34 Nismo Wheels. I googled em and read a few pages and people really like em. They even come with a 2 year 24hr roadside program from Kumho?? I'll have to get details but I needed new tires regardless so i Bought rims and the ecsta LX's. I'll post more once installed and mounted.

Thanks itzkhanh. Am probably going ahead with the purchase; got a local Kumho dealer to honor Tire Rack prices. Have to get better milage than what I got with the BFGs.

Still waiting, I went to town fair tire (new england area tire store) and they matched the tirerack price of 216 a tire + 55 for mounting all four tires... out the door paid 975 for 4 tires to be mounted and installed on my car. I cant wait to get these nismo wheels on my car. If you go to the Kumho site, they are under UHP tires and they mention these are the cream of the crop + 24 month roadside included. Cant beat that.

I would never touch another Kuhmo tire if my life depended on it.

The Ecsta hp4 sucked bad. I have GY triple treads now and it's night and day difference in the snow. If I lived in a warm climate, my experiences would have been better though.

I have read alot of reviews of Kumho tires and many were not good, but based on how the company is aggressively trying to break into premium tire market with the LX, where buyer's have higher expectations, I am hoping they got their act together with this tire. This is the first tire Kuhmo has given a decent warranty. So, even though it's a gamble, I'm still seriously considering this tire based on price and warranty. Am hoping there's someone out there that has them on their ride and can relate how they are performing.

Got my wheels mounted with the LX's.... they were rough at first but after i drove about 10miles on my brand new tires they softened up and I can say I am very happy with my purchase. Now i don't go 130mph, riding on my stock SL suspension.

I noticed (05 SL) my car is quieter, doesnt feel as mushy like the stock 17inch continental contitouring. When I hit 60-80 road noise isnt as noticable as with stock conti's. The tire tread is CRAZY, rated at 600. Good price, so far (30 miles) i like em. No complaints, lets see how they handle the Connecticut / new england snow.

btw 245/40/19 on a34 nismo rays.

Went ahead and ordered a set of 4 LXs also.

The tires will get a good shake-down drive this coming weekend; going up to the Finger Lakes.

Will post performance updates after the trip and as time goes by.

Early Impressions

Put about 400 mi on my new LX's over the weekend. Compare favorably over the old BFG Traction TA H's in the following ways:
- Softer ride (I use my car for commuting and I value comfort over razor-edge handling for this purpose);
- Much more quiet over varying road surfaces;
- Do not trammel over heaved or grooved roads and bridge grates; and
- The LX's do not form flat spots after sitting overnight, like the BFG's did.

Only time will tell how they wear and perform in varying weather conditions.

Stay tuned...

Hey all,

Thanks for the feedback on this specific model tire. About to pull the trigger on it. Been looking for a while and i think this is probably the best bang for your buck considering the amount of treadwear, performance etc.. from what iv've read.
