Re: power doorlock problems

Sorry to tell you but that's how it works. My 86se works the same way since new. Don't really understand why Nissan designed it that way.

Yes, you could add a remote power doorlock option. You have to add a driver side door actuator, since it doesn't have one. The doors/trunk locks have a magnetic switch on the locks used for the build-in alarm. You have to deal with the one on the driver side door when adding that actuator. It can be done just takes some work.

Another option is to disconnect the build-in alarm and install a new system. I always wanted to add a remote door opener but just never got around to it.

The choice is yours, I say go for it.

Good Luck

And if you've noticed, you can lock all the other doors with just the drivers side lock. It is the master lock, I believe. Also, if you have the factory alarm, If you set off the alarm, you have to reset it from the door you opened it from. .............cool!

Depends on what trim you have. If you have the GL or GXE, they have that ability. That's because they have the keyless entry. If you have an SE, they do not get that feature.

have the SE, but the manual says I should be able to lock AND unlock all doors from the drivers side keylock. I can lock all doors by turning the key, and the factory alarm system is set, but then I can't unlock all the doors when I turn to unlock, and the alarm doesn't deactivate.

however if I go to the passengers side and turn the key to unlock, all doors unlock and the alarm is deactivated.

weird. and inconvenient.

Yeah, I think that what I said only applies to the 85-86. 87-88 got the feature. You may have a switch going bad on the drivers door for that to be happening.
