R&P Install Problem...

OK guys...after a lot of fighting and researching, I have been able to tell that I missed a piece of the old rack when I removed it, and stripped it down. The part has already been cored out, even though the store told me they would hold the part before it was trucked out...guess what, they didn't. There is ONE local wrecking yard that has an 88 Max, that still has the rack installed in it. They normally don't sell the racks, due to problems involved in used racks, but they will allow me to purchase it anyway, since I only need it for parts, and will not be puting it into service...

Here's the catch...they want $100 for the rack at the yard. Most of this, they said, is due to the labor involved in pulling it out. The car is sitting on the ground...or should I say IN the ground...it's been out there on bare dirt for over 3 years...and has sunk into the ground from rain storms...

Now for my question...does anyone on the club have an old rack either out, or in a parts car? If so, would they be willing to pull off this part and sell it to me? I don't need thew entire rack, just the hard-line, pressure switch, and mounting bracket...I'm severly strapped for funds right now, but I need to get the car back on the road.

If anyone can do this, please send me an email at :

louiss@ntscom.com

Thanks.

That Maroon wagon is still in their driveway. I never ever really got to find out more about cost for it.

Will do. This is what I will do. Ill take pics of the car first so you can see it and the condition. I dont know if you care for it or not but after I get the pics I can send them to you. If you want then Ill be trying to get the Price from the real owner of the car. Id have to figure a way to get it there. But we'll worry about that when the time comes.

Is the car running? How does the exterior look? If the car is going to get parted, I might be interested in getting the front body parts (fenders, headlights, grill, front valance, bumper, and cornering lamps) to replace my front end with has that damage on the front end. Maybe would help maxwgn out in bearing some of the cost.

Its a wagon the exterior is so so its missing the right clearance light and has some minimal damage to the right front bumper. Nothing too bad. They said the engine is fine the transmission is what went out. I havent seen the interior. Its maroon in color. its an 87 I believe though.

Yeah, we can find out what the total cost is, and haggle...if it's just the bumper and cornering lamp that's bad, there's a local yard here, the one that has the burned se, and the sheet metal, etc... on the front is good. The grill and both headlights melted a little bit, but the corners, fenders, etc., all looked good the last time i was out there...and it's also a maroon car...maybe the color would match up, sarin, which would save you money not having to paint...

Well, if its an 85-86, all I need is the front bumper cover and fender, but if its an 87-88, I will need the whole front end body parts, except the hood. I would have to save some money up, but I would like to see if I can go that route. Definately trying to avoid painting!

I'd also have to save up, so no worries there...are you sure you wouldn't need the hood? I think the hoods are a little different, also...

I think the hoods have a minimal difference in them because our fronts are Angled the 85-86 are straight down. I dont think it would cause a prob though. Going to either get pics of the car later today or maybe tomorrow. It looks like it will be tomorrow though. Had a garage sell at a friends house and the sun and heat man really drained me. Even though that wind felt good that sun had some power today. Plus right after it had rained made it feel hotter than what it really was with all the humidity.

Actually, all the hoods are the same from 85-88. I did a comparison, mine is angle just like the 87-88. The grill arrangement however is flater than the 87-88....part of the reason why I would like to get a 87-88 front end.
