Time to replace the starter...

Totally dead today. No amount of hammer hits can bring it one more start.

So, is this an 'easily replaceable, do-it-yourself' kind of job, or is it a 'there too many things that could go wrong and I should let a mechanic do the it' kind of job?

Thanks!

The starter is about the easiest DIY part under the hood, short of the air filter.

yeah 2 bolts and a wire plug and it is off it will take you longer to remove the plastic shielding if yours has it.the whole job will take you 15 minutes or so to do

Yeah it's a pretty easy job. Just keep one thing in mind...you might need to use a break bar to get the bolts off....not a really big deal, and be sure you torque it down right. When I had a starter done on my old Ranger, the guy didn't torque it down right, and one time when I started the car, the bracket on the start sheared off because the bolt had backed out a little bit.

Plastic shield? The underbelly one? I just put a new starter in about a month and a half ago, I didn't even go under the car it was easy enough to get at from the top when I did mine.

Yeah, the plastic shield is really not that much in the way, and it's not all that difficult to remove if you ask me.
