squeaking engine

squeaking engine

my engine in my 87 max is making squeaking noises, at idle and during driving, and also at start up when its very cold, and during turns. someone told me that the belts are worn and are strecthed and need replacing anyone know what to do.

Sounds like the belts. The description you gave points to that. So basically, buy new belts. There are 3 of them, crank to power steering, crank to A/C and A/C to alternator. Replacement isn't too shabby. Probably about a good 30-45minutes to do since you have to get to them.

how much do all three cost? where can i get them besides the dealer, which im sure will cost a lot more.

Any parts house will carry them, and the cost will depend greatly upon the brand...for the cheapest, look at around $25 - $35, as they tend to average around $10 each...

Yeah, belt's can be found any where you buy car parts, and they aren't very expensive.

are there any special tools i will need for the job? or just the regular stuff. anyone know of the torque specs needed for this job if any.

A standard metric socket set will suffice fine...however, for the upper tensioner, for the A/C, it'll be easier if you have at LEAST a 6" extension, if not longer... IIRC, they are all 10mm, but I could be wrong...
