Checked ECU today and got 'ignition signal' code

So, I removed the screws holding the ECU and checked codes. I got code 2,1 or ignition signal. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

When you we're check this was the car running? You might want to try turning on the car during the check and see if it still shows that code.

The car really isn't doing anything wrong that I can tell. Rough idle and hard starts from sitting 6hrs or more. I have the 87 FSM, but I have found nothing regarding ECU codes.
The car surges when just the tranny is moving the car... You know, when my foot is not on the gas or the break. It kinda jerks forward.

The part thats black with vulcanized rubber, it has a hole for the crankcase ventilation. It connects the TB to the AIV. I just bought two couplers and a tube from autozone and replaced it.

from my experiance, i had the same problem with my car i checked it out and it ended up being the timeing was off. and adjusted it and it whent away. it came up cuz because of the igniton signal coming from the distrebuter isnt right. the leds and the disk holes arnt lined up right.

but u dont have to take my word for it.

I'll check the intake thing Tuesday.

How do I check/adjust the timing. I can probably borrow a timing gun from Napa or something.

damn i know how to do it but i kinda suck on explaning things. but i try my best.

1/ get a timing light (ther r 2 typs base timeing and advance timing light. the dff. is that the advance timeing light has a numbers on it and a bite harder to use and more expensive) so just stick with the base timing ligh in other words the rageler 1.

2/ hook up the timeing light (red clap to + of battery and black - of battery the lasy clamp hook up the the #1 spark plug, cabe just clamp it over the cabel)

3/when u open you hood look at the bottem of it the should be a yello sticker that will show u your timing and vacume diagram

4/ look at were it says timeing. the timing will be 15* btdc on a manual and auto it will be 20*btdc.

5/ look for the crank pully (the 1 wich drives all the belts)

6/ once u have lokated it turn the car on and point the gun on it u will see a arowe like ting right on top of the crank pully and littel marks or scars on the pully(tos r your timeing mark.
*
0 10 15 20 25 30
ll ll ll ll ll ll

engine spins -->(clock wise)
7/ the littel arow like thing should be pointing right over the 20* mark and when u give it gass it should go to the 0* mark automaticly.(that good timeing)

8/ if not right timeing lossen distributer bolt,(size 10mm) and rotat the distributer clock wies or counter clook wise till the pointer is right on top of the 20* mark.

ther i did my best
