yeah. this damn car. when starting cold, it's fine. when idling at stops and driving it's fine. in fact it's fine all the time EXCEPT right on startup when it's hot, it likes to idle rough and die. for example, start the car when cold, everything's good. drive it to the store, everything's good. come out of the store, start it up, idles rough, might die a couple times. once it's been running for a couple minutes, it's fine again. what gives? oh, and of course it won't really do it for me, just for my girlfriend (her car).
I have a similar hot start problem (though it does not happen every time the car is warm), I would also love to know the fix to this problem but I have not found it yet....my car does not quite die but it gets really close to dieing then it will catch its self after 3-4 attempts to die. Goodluck figuring it out and please post if you figure out the problem.

well I am going to replace my plentium gasket soon...I am hoping possibly I have an air leak that is being created when the car is getting warm...though I doubt thats what it is. I also know I have an exhaust leak on from exhaust manifold (per sea foam

hmm. so it's nothing to worry about i guess. ok cool, i can ignore it for now. cursing at it usually seems to help. another random question. where does your oil pressure usually run? my girl's car is usually around 60ish, but lately it's been running at 90 for no apparent reason. car still seems to run great. i'm running mobil10/30 full synth in it right now. she's been driving it that way for a couple days. should i panic?

The oil pressure is low on hot and warm starts, anywhere from 10-20psi, and can be lower when idling. On cold starts, it's normal for it shoot way up to 60-70psi. When you rev the motor or drive it hard, it should be 40ish. The faster the motor spins, the more pressure you get--makes sense, the oil pump is crank driven. So you get more pressure when revving than when idling.

I'm not saying this is uniform, BUT in my observations and experience, I've developed the rule of thumb that girls destroy cars.

the oil pressure thing makes sense. so what the hell does it mean if the pressure is higher? that i have a block in my system somewhere? and in general, you're right, but i live with my girl and i maintain her car for her so i THINK it should be ok. and it was in A LOT worse hands with her sister before we rescued it. it's happier than it's been in years!!!!
Well it's normal for the oil pressure to be higher when the motor is cold. Cold engine oil is harder to move than warm oil. In fact, during cold startup, my oil pressure shoots to 90 psi immediately...and stays there for a little bit. When it gets warm it drops back down to around 45 when driving and lower idling....like 5-10 psi.
