Always something...

with these cars, ain't it. Still better than a car payment, though.

Anyways, 88 Maxima starts, idles, and runs pretty good, hot or cold, but when it shifts into overdrive and I accelerate, the front end will shake violently until I let off the gas. I can then accelerate a little more slowly and it will speed up OK.

It doesn't do this in any other gear. It really only happens at low RPM (just after shift) in overdrive.

Anyone have this happen yet?

Where are the rpm's in overdrive when you do this? I wonder if something is up with your overdrive. Does car feel like it's kicking in and out of overdrive. Have you check your ATF fluid lately?

Say I'm getting on the interstate, giving it gas as it shifts through the gears. I can feel it shift into OD and if I don't ease up off the throttle it will shake hard (at about 2000 to 2500 rpms), as if I'm running over 3 inch rumble strips. The steering wheel shakes hard as well, probably a vibration of at least an inch or two up and down. This is a problem that started after I put on a used TPS a couple of months ago. I didn't think that this could be a TPS problem, but I guess I'll get a new one and see if that helps.

Fluid level is good, btw...

Was it directly after you put a TPS in...or developed soon after? What happens if you just leave the car out of overdrive? What happens if you let off when it shifts into overdrive, and then gas it again?

Here are the thoughts I have so far. Torque convertor lockup is having a problem. Either it's not locking completely during an accelerated shift, or is just not locking at all.

mine does the same thing I just figured the torque converter lock was not working right hell it still drives good just an annoying shake from time to time.
but hell if anyone knows what the problem is and a way to fix it that would be great.I hate auto trannys

A buddy ysed to have a 300ZX that did the exact same thing in o/d. I agree, it sounds like a torque converter problem. It could be rapidly locking/unlocking, causing the rumble.

Yes, it started the same day that the used TPS was installed. (Shoulda been a hint, huh?)

Hadn't tried running it without OD button engaged. I will do so today.

If I let off before it starts to shake (in OD), I can ease back into the gas and it will slowly get up to speed and stay at speed, 50 to 70 mph (don't have any problem until it gets to about 50 mph and above). A big hill might make it shake a bit if I try to speed up too fast.

Problem with that is he can let off and gradually accelerate and it'd be fine. If it was axles....it would always do it when your accelerating in even gradually. So I don't think it would neccessarily be axles.

My car would only do it if I hit a pothole, or train tracks. Anything to disrupt the tires and it was wooble city.
