Always Sometin'!!!!!

ok today i started the max it runs fine it was in a slumber after i ported the heads, replaced the gaskets, replaced the exaustmanifold studs(50 buxs from nissan for 12 w/50% disc. bout 3.80 a piece!!!!) now when i start it i let ir run and then it goes for a while and i get smoke coming from the exaust manifolds both front and rear it gets to the o2 sensor and im guessing thats what is making the engine die down a bit not as if its dieing but just a slow down i havent taken it out for a drive yet fearing that it will shutoff at a light or sometin, anyone kno what this smoke is and where it is coming from(White not blue) i dont think that it can be a coolant leak because i used sealant and torked down the heads to spec (22lbs, loosen, 44 lbs) i dunno but i hope someone can help me so i can take it to get it smogged by this week and then ill be on the road thanks...

is the smoke coming from out of the exhaust or is it just something burning off the surface of the manifolds?

Have you checked for coolant loss or any other leaks around the motor? Leaky valve covers?

Big-E Dog, that thing is sharp ! I have a 1987 black Max that's gonna have to have a new power steering pressure hose and I was wondering if you had replaced yours ?

Are they difficult to replace and are any special tools needed ?

The space sure looks tight.

I don't mean to hijack your thread but it sounds like you know your way around the Max V-6 engine bay !

Thanks !

interesting, is that because it is a little thicker than the power steering fluid or what is the reasoning behind that? Well in any case, I am still using regular old power steering fluid and the power steering doesn't leak and feels nice and smooth (may be due to good maintenance and prior replacement of everything by old owner)

Actually my 2nd gen all of a sudden just started smoking really bad for like a week last summer. I lost a few nights sleep cause I thought my baby was done for. There were oil drips on the front exhaust manifold heat shield but I couldnt locate the source. It turns out my valve cover somehow was not tight. Tourqued it down and nary a problem since

Didn't you just port the heads? Sounds like you cracked a waterjacket.

have you ever thought of taking an old set of covers and making a mold out of them to make your own set of clear lenses?

would eliminate your flat and i know theres gotta be werid gaps and wind noise with those things
