A late friend of mine used to own Toyota -Nissan salvage(Phoenix) ,the 70s-80s cars were what they specialized in.I don't know if anybody took it over, but this stuff was all over the place.

Everything else, I mean EVERYTHING, is identical! Even has the exact same interior, the light gray checked cloth seats. Adjustable shocks, the whole nine yards. It's almost like the buyer went through the options list, optioning her out like an SE without actually buying an SE...
Is it possible you have an SE with the fog or front air dam deleted? maybe the fogs were removed? My SE when I bought it had the fog swtich and stuff, but the fogs were removed. I fixed one of the mounting tabs, and put a set of Harbor freight fogs on the car. I have a NOS NIB Nissan Foglight Kit, but I didnt wanna use it. lol

Theres an older guy I met a few years ago with a SE. He saw me taking a photo of the car and came out and we spoke about Maximas for awhile. Still have his number, been thinking about calling him and offering him some monies.

This is the car. I took this photo when I drove past a few months ago.

London,
My '80 Scirocco was my baby! Had a less than 50 hour GTI motor dropped in mated up to a 6-speed OD tranny I had built by Z Doctors in Winter Park, FL. Bilstiens, BBS black basketweaves, Perelli P7s, Recarros, Corsa exhaust. She was good for 138 at top bop, the 6th gear OD really dropping the revs, about 5K top end. That speed was timed by my neighbor who was a shift supervisor for Orange County Sheriffs Dept.

That air dam you linked ain't the same one. Looks like the dam Nissan used on those funky looking editions (think they came out in '88) with the 5-spoke all white mags...did NOT like that look!

TA, that dudes car looks exactly like mine! 'Cept for that OOPS on the left rear quarter...

New to forum! 1988 GXE owner... 80K and rolling!

Hey you guys...I just wanted to introduce myself and my car to the active group of older Maximas. I'm a 45 yr. old IT storage engineer, and I do pretty much all the maintenance/repairs on our 3 cars or find the correct thing to be done with my Haynes manuals, forums, youtube and work with a shade tree mechanic to complete most any tasks.

I've got my mother's 88' GXE with about 80K miles on it, lightly driven mostly like 8 miles a day for about 7 years, hardly any HWY miles, and then it sat nearly unused for about 4 years. I got the car in 2010, and did quite a few things to get it mechanically sound, including tranny rebuilt, and front end rebuilt, most of which I did or oversaw someone who knew a bit more tricks than me.

Hope you guys can share your expertise with me and get my car purring just right! I've got a question or two posted in the 1st n 2nd generation forum regarding fuel/air/ timing ecu etc. If you could give it a peek and let me know what you think it's much appreciated! I would love to know what you think about the car and what efforts I should invest into it. I don't have a lot of Maxima knowledge,

This 88' maxima was inherited from my mother who gave to me in 2010 with only 58K miles! Car looks like crap but still has a lot of life left so here's the love I've tried to give it, so you know about the car and my knowledge level.

Right away in 10' I had a shop change the timing belt changed (not sure if the tensioner was replaced), the front seals changed, & valve covers resealed. $1200.

All new fuel injectors and electronics(Nissan recall) Free

I had the transmission rebuilt in 11' about a year ago for $950

I personally redid the front end suspension in 12'. A-frame cushions pressed in, also rubber cushions at the frame, new ball-joints, cv joints, brakes pads, brake fluid flush, shocks & struts, end links cushions alignment, sway-bar adjusted. $about another $600 or so in parts. Cheaper than new car payments.

In 13' also just changed the fluids regularly, oil, trans, etc. plugs, wires. I changed rotor, dist cap, PCV valve withing the last two weeks.

Here are some pics of my car...

Agreed Gamez. $5-6K, yeah, I could see that. My engine bay looks just like that one, and I'm sitting at 194K on the clock...

5-6k is still way too much, be lucky to get $2000-$2500. ive owned alot of older cars, the only ones that fetch more than $3k are almost always classic sports cars like Z, Supra, RX7, etc. economy cars go for less

It's rust free, low miles, and obviously owned by an adult.I sold one not quite as nice 4-5 years ago for 3500.00.I sold my 1994 240sx convertible for 10,500(48k miles, pristine)Any Datsun/Nissan untouched by a millenial with Mommy's credit card, bad taste, and an agenda hellbent on the destruction of rare Asian cars is worth more than book.Too often I'll hit an advertisement for a vintage Datsun/Nissan just to discover that it's another "project car",Sr20det unfinished conversion, owned by the life came at me,knocked up the Jr high goth girlfriend, working at becoming an MMA fighter kid.

i bought my Supra for $2600. 1 older owner, 4166th Supra made numbers matching, never saw winter, barely saw rain, rust free, all original paperwork etc and he had trouble selling it. ive seem many many old Datsuns go like that too, only ones ive seen go past the 5k mark are low mileage mint S30Z

Which is kinda the way I like it. Excellent cars that WE like that can be had for cheap!

And I have to add something. One of the members posted that Royal Purple GL-5 full synth gear oil was not good for Max 5-speeds as it effed up the syncros...Dudes, my 5-speed shifts like a dream!

I use Royal Purple,no complaints here. Some idiots think it's la tranny repair, but it's just one hell of a lubricant.

Try the Amsoil equivelant, and you will probably never use RP again. Amsoil is freaking amazing, and its substantially cheaper than RP, plus it isnt purple.

zcar, I've been running the RP now for around 45K miles, if and when the gearbox starts giving me some issues, I'll try Amsoil. Until then, I ain't gonna change a thing...

Should I not use Lucas Transmission Lubricant? I use their fuel treatment, but I didn't hear any mention of it in this discussion...

Agreed. Whatever you use, it's going to be better than what's in the gearbox now.

Had to bop over to Orlando this afternoon, I know the back roads where it's always fun rowing through the gears...

Looks identical to the one that I used to terrorize the streets of Federal Way WA in when I was a teen and my mother let me take her car out. Sadly it was destroyed in June of '91. Stepfather pulled out infront of someone and wiped the front end out.

Pretty Clean 88, I would love to have a 2nd Gen! There's alot of similarities between it and a VG powered 3rd Gen!

well it has come time to make a car payment, my power steering pump is on it's way out. thinking about just rebuilding, but thats a bit more down time then getting a whole new one, but I do need to go shopping for my project car so could grab one from the junk yard get two rebuild kits, rebuild, swap and rebuild the other one and sell. Is anyone going to need one also?

Been away for a while, but the old girl is still running awesome! 201K on the clock right now, she's getting a rest while I put some miles on the Jeep. Finally got around to doing something I've always wanted to do since we bought this place...turn the bigarse enclosed porch we have (which we kinda never use) into a car barn...

So after 27 1/2 years, she finally has her place OUT of the sun!

Still have my 87 Max. 336,000 miles. Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. Put another tranny and new heads in it a couple of years ago. Runs great! Will keep it as long as I can get parts for it. Had to dig it out of the snow the other day. No room in the garage right now. The 560SEL is hogging it up.
