1st Gen Maxima Sedan fuel economy

Greetings,

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

I searched the internet and this website to no avail regarding the MPG rating for the 1st Gen gasoline engine sedan with automatic trans. Each search resulted in the Diesel MPG being shown.

Can anyone who owns the 1st gen sedan with the gasoline L24 series engine supply me with their mpg experience please?

Thanks for your time.

Ernie

I'd say anywhere from 18-21mpg

As I remember that would be about right. You could adjust the rear end ratio to something a higher to get a little more out of it.

Really, I wonder if you would get better MPG from a L28E coupled with a 3.7 R200 rear end. The L28 has a longer stroke, so more low end, and the engine would not have to work as hard as the L24. If you want to know more, let me know.

I just did a 1500 mile trip from Atlanta to New Orleans and back. All highway and 4 fill ups that I checked I always exceeded 28mpg running a steady 69-71 mph in overdrive. Mine is a gas 83 automatic. usually 18-21 around town, but I drive like an old man.

That is very similar mileage to the 280ZX.

Still, having the L28 with higher gearing 3.9/3.7 should not change the mileage much, and the torque is much better than the L24.
