I pulled this out of a maxima at a pick n pull, is it possible to swap it? I have seen NO photos of this anywhere, so I'm guessing its rare?

 

Awesome! I don't know how easy the swap is, unfortunately. Mine came with it from the factory.

 

not really since you will need to switch a bunch of sensors, but it can be done

Swapping a cluster will most likely involve the cluster, the plugs, and fuel level sender unit. As well as the temp and oil pressure senders. As they differ from analog to digital read outs.

I’ve done this swap on Toyota’s and that’s usually what’s involved. I would recommend buying the electrical diagram book for the Maxima. I have one as well as the factory repair manual.

i was going to do it on my 3rd gen, far as i know as said you need the cluster itself, harness, and fuel level sending unit. dont know of any other sensors you might need. my Toyota i know the speedometer is a digital speed sensor from the digi dash vs a speed cable for analog gauge cluster

old picture, best i have. you can tell its the old school digi cluster because the trip mileage is digital but the 6 digit odometer is analog lol

it did until the speed sensor broke so the speedometer doesnt work anymore and just sits at 0kmh lol. because of it the odometer froze and its like 60,000km behind, i havent been able to find a sensor at a junkyard yet

 

Ohno ;w; Is it a common sensor between digital dashes? Can you have someone possibly repair the sensor through soldering?

 

no idea, a shop butchered an engine build on it and when i had it back for warranty they went bankrupt so alot of things were slapped together. amongst other things they fudged up im sure the wiring or something to the sensor was one of them. i drove it to the USA and when i was coming back the speedo started jumping around then eventually quit. the speed sensor would just be little plastic gears in the sensor likely, either those failed or the wiring failed

it would be neat to see how hard it would be to completely swap a 2nd gen or 3rd gen to digi dash though, with my knowledge today vs 10 years ago when i wanted to do the swap on my 3rd gen i could easily do it now
