86 maxima hard cold start and stalls when up to temperature

I have an 86 maxima with the vg30e and I was told the cylinder head temp sensor was my issue, I can barley get it started after 10 minutes of on and off cranking and pumping the gas. Once it starts I have to hold the throttle a little to keep it going until it's warm. Once started if I go and stall it out it won't start back up until it's cooled down in between cold and warm. It's fuel injected and when I do try to start it up when cold it just dumps fuel and when I pulled the old plugs I could tell it had seen too much fuel. Any other suggestions as to why it would not want to start back up after it's up to temperature I'm at a complete loss right now.

Did you end up replacing the coolant temperature sensor? I had a '88 Nissan Hardbody years back I bought cheap that did the same thing, when you started it warm it would chug and stall out unless you played around with the gas pedal for 10 seconds. Took a look and the connector for the coolant temperature sensor was broken off, wired on a new connector and all was good

If you want to be certain, trace the wiring harness to the sensor to make sure there's no damage then for the sensor itself, there should be an Ohm spec it should fall under cold you can run a test. Or if the wiring looks good just toss the $20 sensor at it and see what happens

It might not be the actual sensor but the wiring! These Pre-Weather-Pak connector cars suffer from corroded pins and wiring continuously. Visually inspect your wiring, verify that you're receiving 5 VDC and that the return circuit is 0.0-2.0 ohms end to end! You can heat the sensor up in a pot of boiling water and measure it's resistance to the testing chart. Good Luck!
