Considering we had a hellacious snowstorm in the Chicago area, I was wondering how many of us (Maxima Owners)who were in the storm's path have any interesting stories about how their Max handled the Blizzard of 2000.

Right now, Maxine is still somewhat snow covered, but she handled it rather well. The most harrowing incident came around 47th St on the Dan Ryan. Someone in a Tahoe was going just a hair too fast for conditions near the curve and spun out. If I had not accelerated to get out of his way, he would have nailed me.

I'm about to test the same thing where I live. All that snow has made its way to West Texas. I'm sure not HALF as bad as what y'all are going through. They said about 2-3 inches accumulation expected. That may not seem like much but when it snows out here and gets real cold we can usually expect about that thick of ice on the road. Snow and ice here are way more dangerous cause we hardly ever get it and people here are stupid. They can't drive in snow or rain.

Blizzard conditions

The storm you elude to missed Minnesota. I was in South Dakota hunting. The conditions were VERY cold(-17 degrees without the windchill) when we took off hunting Sunday morning. My friends Ford truck died so I used the Max. running down alot of very snow covered, wind blown, remote country roads. She starts fine at -25. Just takes a while to warm up.I have also noticed that she handles as good or better than many of the previous cars I have owned. If the snow is deep, you have to be careful with the lowered suspension. The good heater is also appreciated when you have just walked several miles and need to warm up.

ilive in central illinois out in the country and i must say i love the way the max handles. this is my first year with it on snow. we had about 3/4 in. of ice w/ about 3 in. of snow on top of that. i had about 150lbs extra in the back and just bought new front tiger paw snow tires. i didnt slide around at all really. it handled great!

I only have problems when i try to go or stop. haha
I slid through one intersection that i was supposed to turn on. And one old guy swerved into my lane without checking to see if i was there so i had to go out into the median at 45mph just to keep him from hitting me. And i had no problems. Once i get going the Max handles like a dream.
hehe

Thats nothing......

hehe...on the 20th of November, Buffalo got nailed with 26 inches of snow!!!!!!!!!! It was crazy. May max got stuck pulling out of work. There was just too much snow in front. Plus I have the Eibachs. It would have been the same stock though.

Naw....we only got a couple inches from it this morning but I think we got the wind MUCH worse than where people got snow. A local weather station near my house had a peak gust of 72mph this morning. CRAZY!

I am from Ames Iowa, I have two Maxima's now and I drove my old one just in case I got in a wreck. It is a 95se the ABS had some problems, I was driving about 25 in town and the ABS light came on and I could hear it working. I was not even hitting the brakes, it was causing my rear wheels to lock up every couple of seconds. This was not cool!! I had to pull over and turn off the ignition twice to let the computer reset. I don't know what caused this but after that it was fine. Let me tell ya, ABS is not very affective on ice and hard packed snow. It is more worried about not locking up than stopping.

We had a lot of ice on the roads this morning and I would have to disagree that ABS doesn't work on ice and snow. My ABS worked just fine and I had almost no traction or sliding problems. My dad's Yukon has ABS to and it works real well in this crap.

I am not saying that ABS does not work. I never had any sliding problems. It's just that you can stop faster without it, in this kind of weather. You just have to be very good with your breaks.

I just put a new battery in my new Max and it is great it cranks like a champ. The cold doesn't even affect it.

Just what we need...more snow

The forecasters up here have said we are going to get up to an additional 4" of the white stuff this evening (as if we need any more after Monday).

My friends Neon

Remember last x-mas when WI. and IL. got nailed by that blizzard where we got nearly 20" in a day? My friend was coming down the road in his Neon to get to my house. The road was absolutly covered with snow that you could tell where the road was. Anyway, my friend went around the corner a little too fast and nailed a huge snow drift that literally burried his car! He had to put down his window and dig his way out of his car to get out. he ran to my house and we had to put flares around the pile so a snow plow wouldn't hit is white Neon in the drift. We ended up digging the damn thing out- it took forever. I wanted to leave that stupid car in there b/c Neon's suck!
