Clutch Problem!!!!

I was driving the other day and I could not shift into gear. Next thing I noticed was the my clutch went to the florr and would not come back up. The car would not move. All this at a traffic light. Anmy ways I got the csar towed home. Does anyone know that it could be? Some told my I need a new clutch some say it is just my clutch wire. I don't want to spend a whole lot cus I'm trying to get a 4rth gen maxima? Please help me diagnose this before a mechanic rips me off. I tried searching but came up with a whole bunch of clutch upgrades.

could be one of many problems. most likely it's a bad clutch master or slave cylinder, or if you're really lucky, it's only a broken hose.

at worst case, it could be a failed pressure plate on the clutch.

unless you know how to work on the clutch system, I suggest just leaving it to the mechanic and having them show you the broken parts when you pick it up.

First day in my car, I experienced the same promblem... very ****ed off... until it turned out to be the cap on the clutch fluid... one of the tabs holding the cap down had somehow snapped off, causing the cap to lose its seal and my clutch system to lose all hydraulic pressure. Got the car home with minimal shifting and clutch pinned on the floor, got cap at junkyard for $5... not a problem since.
Good Luck with it.
