Intermittent stall on acceleration 92 Maxima
Again, Try checking the Throttle Position Sensor. It is what caused my 93 VE to fall flat on its face randomly as well. There are many things that can cause this problem, just make sure you check them all.
I'm just another maxima with this problem. But only happens when the engine is cold. I have no problem up-shifting (automatic) from 1st to 2nd but from 2nd to 3rd.......it just starts to high rev and hardy move at all. I can pop it into second (on shifter) and get power once again. It eventually revs back down and up-shifts to 3rd. After that I don't have any problems. Weird. Everyone is talkng about sensors, and stuff. Has anyone checked their trans before? Just curious. Kind of may seem like a trans problem to me. But then again I really don't know so that is why I am trying to get ideas from you guys.
Thanks ahead of time.
Thanks ahead of time.
Another update. Took it out on the road this morning and the idle stutter came back. It does seem to do it during acceleration. Very strange. I think I will try the Throttle Position Sensor next. Is there a way to test it or do I just need to replace it?

for the past few months my 92 Maxima GXE has had some engine problems.... The RPM meter will drop down to 500rpm, then bounce back up..this happens right when u turn on the car, or at a stop light...and whenever this happens the car shakes...
in the past few weeks, the car stopped accelerating at up to 30 mph or so...its VERY slow accelerate, theres no way to go up an overpass without losing speed...
so 2 days ago we changed all the spark plugs...this had seemed to fix the acceleration problem....but then yesterday when I took it for a drive, it started to give the same problem...
are these 2 problems related?? any ideas on what to do? How do you disonnect the O2 sensor? And do you see those error codes?
thanks

I have gotten rid of my 92' SE since my last post. I went through the entire system in search of my problem: Mass air flow, crank angle, O2, coil, plugs, ECU codes, fuel pump, fule filters, Nissan, blogs, etc... I did find a solution. GAS- my SE was VERY sensitive to gas, and at the time I was burning regular and mid-grade. I started burning premium, and every now and then add some booster to a tank. Went away for good. At least that's was my situation. Although I no longer own the 92' I sure do miss that 5spd that would go 145 on any give day!
stalling...
After running voltage drop tests across the primary side (power and ground) of the coil packs, I found the ground wire (black wire coming from each of the coil pack connectors) has very high resistance which will cause the plugs to fail under load. (when accelerating). The remedy for this would be to replace the old ground strap with new 14 gauge wire. Hope this helps
