This is not a big deal but I'd really like to get the sad looking Toyota dealer's decal off the trunk of my 92SE (car must have been traded in there). Is there a safe solvent I can use?

All depends on the type of decal it is...

The used car dealer where I bought my car from put on their decal on my bumper, even though I told them I'd be driving the car to Michigan where I go to school (I bought the car at my home in NY). so what good would their advertising do out there in MI?! Anyway...

It was a non-sticky decal and I just pulled the individual letters off.

Solvent

if you look in a body shop supplies store, or a well stocked auto parts store, get some of the solvent they use to remove wax prior to painting. 3M and Ditzler (and I am sure others) make it. It's a great solvent, and most likely will loosen your decal. You can then rub off any remaining glue and no damage to paint in the end. With leftovers you can remove tar and bugs as well.

This decal/logo looks a bit like the decals that used to come with model airplane kits. It's extremely thin see-through plastic with white letters ---- probably the whole thing was a peel and stick .. but it's so thin that there's no way I can grab an edge to peel any of it. I'll check out the local shops for some of that dewaxing solvent and let you know.
