Hey guys found a sweet VE 5sp but it has "electrical issues" couple of ?????s

93SE 5sp 130K miles
Charcoal Grey
working VTCs.............only $3K sounds good huh? Well the problema is nothing electrically works no speedometer no interior lights, no AC the brake lights, no turn signals, no window motor, non of the gauges work.

Secondly the car mechanically is strong however under strong acceleration the car pulls HARD to the right. The dealer is saying the electrical problem is just a relay so I am assuming that all the fuses are good. I am ready to offer him $1.5K and be on my way. I am trying to convince them that the problem is more serious than a relay and they should be happy to take my 1.5K to 2K offer Can a relay cause virtually all the gauges and lights and window motors and AC not work?

VE no working lights, no AC , no turn signal, no instrumentation working POWAH Hi Craig

Thanks
Pat

Mine has bad torque steer and pulls to the right on acceleration also. I'm waiting on parts to get here so I can work on my cv joints/axles to see if that helps solve some of the problem

it's not a relay; if it really is a relay, ask the guy to change it and you'll pay the $10 for the new relay

it could be lots of fuses blown or some of the fusible links (big fuses located in the relay box near the battery)

before I bought that car, I would take a look at the wiring under the dash and see what's going on. One thing that comes to mind is that he could have a bunch of wires melted behind the fuse box. If you look at my page under the warning chime mod, you can see how to remove the lower dash. The fuse box is on the left and only held in by one big screw and a clip up top.

do ANY electric things inside the car work - windows, sunroof, radio, clock, power locks, etc?

where is the car located? if it's not too far away, I'd offer to come take a look with you this weekend but I'll be out of town all this weekend

I'd say if it's a 'simple' problem that's easy and cheap to fix, then the seller would've fixed it. Especially since a problem like that you describe would be such a huge turnoff for most buyer. And you ought to get a better car for $3k. If he accepts $1.5k for it that might be worth it, though! Especially if the electrical problem actually turned out to be simple!

I'm a 3rd Genner @ heart I owned a VG 5sp with CAI and exhaust. But I drove a VE 5sp and the pull on the high end was nice and I like the interior better in the 3rd Gen. Besides a VE and VQ would be nice in the garage especially like Agamemnon said for little or nothing.

This is probably a burned out harness that could have been caused by a faulty alternator, or worse a small electrical fire. This car might be a good model for someone that already has a Max and is looking for a parts car. The number of things wrong could easily cost you more trouble than it's worth. Another point to consider is do you have alternative transportation if the car were to fail? Be in the shop for an extended amt of time?

These are all issues I would take into consideration if purchasing a car with a COUPLE of problems..

Have fun.

Well....tell the dealer that if it's really 'just a relay' then they can fix it and you'll pay em $3k + 'labor' for their fixing the relay. I agree with the others that if it really were just a relay, the dealer woulda fixed that long ago.

If they wont/dont, inform them that you're not some idiot and offer $1.5k.

First thing I thought of is that its been in a wreck. Does it have a clean title?

The pulling under accleration could be it was hit on the front and the body shop just threw it back together real quick. That would explain the faulty electrical system too. Id be on the look out for water damage too. You right though, sounds fishy.

I had a friend have electrical problems with his '89 Stang GT. It was in and out of the shop trying to get the problems worked out. Spent a lot of money....in the end, it all just kept burning up on him.
