tick, tick, tick...not VTC's!

I have a ticking noise under the hood. I know it's not the VTC's, I grounded those last year, I don't think it's the lifters, I use Mobil 1 synthetic in it, and I doubt it's an injector tick. I just replaced all of those in May. I have also noticed a misfire around the time the ticking started. I've checked all of the plugs and coils. Any ideas at all??
Thanks,

Brian

Re: tick, tick, tick...not VTC's!

After a while in severe causes, VTC's have been known to click even while being grounded. Another member just lost his VE motor, he too had recently notice a noise (kinda like lifters) couple of weeks before the motor took a dive. When you say you check the coils, I assume they checked ok, no cracks.

He could still one or more bad lifters.

Something to try, would be a motor flush at your next oil change. Its cheap and just might do the trick, just make sure you follow the instructions.

my VE made a clicking noise kinda like that, but it wasnt teh VTC's (they were fully functional and happy). I am pretty sure its just something with the valves. As soon as i put synthetic in the durango, it started making the same noise. my autotech teacher says its 100% completly ok, its just them moving around abit more freely now. Which comfirms my theroy about it.

I made a song up about it, well it actually kinda goes with it (i was bored, cleaning the car, bonding time...
clickity clack, clickity clack, the cams go round and the valves go smack. or something like that. depending on my level of boredness the song would have new lyrics.

Thanks for all your help. I'll think about that engine flush in February.
