intake tubing
intake tubing
i'm prolly gonna get flamed like crazy for this but how do you remove that intake tube that goes from the headlight to the main intake box? there's two screws that i can see that holds the tube onto the box. i did a search but didn't find anything helpful. or maybe someone can direct me to a link with answers? any help be appreciated. thanks.

to remove headlight: remove corner lense (one screw on top and then it pops outward if you pry at the front part - be careful not to break the tabs on the back end), then you'll see 2 screws with 10mm bolt heads on them that go into the side of the headlight
after removing those, you will also find 2 10mm nuts on the back side of the headlight housing on the side close to the grille
once those are out, you can work the headlight out (move it around to get the headlight alignment screws through their holes)
then you'll see 2 screws/bolts holding that plastic piece in
also, I just rememeber that the headlight bracket will be attached to the grille, just remove the clips on that side or remove the whole grille - 5 clips total
it sounds a lot harder than it really is - shouldn't take more than 20 minutes or so (5 minutes if you've done it before)
btw - this is for the square piece (maybe 3"x3" or so) that is directly behind the headlight and is about 3 or 4 inches long, the rest of the pieces between there and the stock intake can be removed more easily - couple screws here and there; I can't remember offhand where they are though because it's been about 3 years since I dealt with that

if it's the same piece I'm thinking of, then I think you may need to remove the headlight to get to it

which way is the easier route? take the headlight out or the open ended wrench? plus how much do those wrenches cost?
i want to remove that tube in hopes of getting better airflow

Uhh I rather not take the headlight off because in the time it takes to do that with a little effort you can do it the other way. Actually once you get it turn you can turn the screws from the thread section and then you can just unbolt it with your hands, it worked for me this way in my car and my friends consider me to have big hands. Good luck

I would check it out for you, but my intake and headlights are both not stock anymore so I can't really remember exactly where all the smaller pieces were exactly
your friends say you have big hands eh? just keep that between you and your friends
If you want better airflow, don't just remove this tube you're talking about. That won't do a single thing. If you are poor like me, then make your own intake. I believe this idea will work with the VG motors.
Here's what I did:
Buy a $25 APC 3" cone filter from a parts store.
Open up your stock intake box and take out that brass ring that has about 3 rivets. This will be your intake adapter plate. I got out my brass flange by ripping it out with pliers. That caused me to bend it all up and I flattened it back to normal with a hammer on concrete. Others might drill out the rivets with a very small drill bit.
Once you have the flange out and flattened back to normal, you have to bend the part that curves outward. Once you bend that as straight as possible, you can put your cone fitler over it and then tighten the clamp. When you bend this flange, it's going to look ugly and rippled, but you won't see it since the filter will cover it.
Other people have sawed off the curved part, which doesn't leave that much room for the cone filter to fit over.
There you have it... a $25 intake.
While you're at it, remove the intake resonator by following the instructions brought out at:

Are you sure your talking about the correct resonator? Because, the resonator is in the exhaust system further down the piping of the exhaust behind the cat.? I think the part that your trying to remove is called a snorkel? I just cut mine right out? And also, the resonator in the exhaust system in my car is now removed because it improves the sound and makes it sound a lot better!!

You can be like me and take a hack saw and cut it out and then remove the little electronic black box but I wouldn't suggest it haha
