Help! I need some performance times for 91 ATX

Hi guys,
A buddy of mine at school has a 91 maxima (160hp v6).
He claims it can go about 152mph and can stomp on my MTX SHO. Is this true? I dont think it can go *that* fast. I havent raced him yet so i cant tell ya. Does anyone know the 0-60 times, 1/4m, and topspeed for it? I would really like to know...to end his BS.

thanks in advance,

silas

I beat a jet once in mine...

but seriously, if the 1/4th mile times in your sig are true, then you should easily beat him.

What makes your SHO an MTX? Never heard of it...just curious.

Actions speak louder than words. You will eat him alive (at the track of course).

152MPH? Ask him how he figured that one out.

Its usually the biggest talkers that end up backing out of a race due to "mechanical failure."

I would put money on this one.

Yeah...MTX means manual transmission
ATX= Auto

Yeah, i though he was BS'ing me. 152 was just a LITTLE high.
So does anyone know the real top speed? How about 0-60 times, or 1/4m for a stock 91 ATX maxima V6?

"""but seriously, if the 1/4th mile times in your sig are true, then you should easily beat him."""

yes they are true. Was curious to see what i could get, so last year went down to Lebonon, NY. Was fun, had a good time at the track. First few runs=lotsa wheel spin, but i finally figured it out and could hit 15.1's easy. I used a G-tech for the 0-60 times.

Not to rain on your parade, but G-Tech's can be really inaccurate.

Your trap speed seems a little high for stock. Any mods?

5spd92SE,

No mods currently...

1/4 fuel...took out the spare. Thats it.
No i think the trap times are fairly normal/possibly a tad high. When i was hitting 15.2s/15.1's trap speed was ~93-94.1
At the time i only had about 2K on a new clutch...so i could get some good takeoffs (good for a 220hp F-WD car), with only minor wheel spin right off the line.

I know the G-tech isnt very accurate...and i admit i did get some oddball times (6.2, 7.8, etc, etc). But i mostly averaged 6.5-6.6...some lower some higher. It seems just about right with OEM performance numbers...

a 160hp maxima has no show against a similar weight 220hp car... simple really!

Actually, I think your right. Now that I think about it more, I ran a 15.19 @ 92.9 in my 95SI. So your trap speed does seem accurate.

I remember working at Ford back when SHO's just came out. The sales guys would say:

"Hey you little pee-on, go fill up this SHO for me."

I would happily take the SHO and fill it up - going the long way of course. I remember smoking an MR2 in an ATX SHO quite well.

Got to love those Yamaha engines!

You've hit an indicated 135MPH. Actual is probably very different.

Car and driver listed the 92 SE 5 speed at 137MPH, and that's with measuring equipment.

I have no idea about the VG.

ok....the SHO would win. the VG maximas cant take a SHO...any sho. My friend raced a 94 SHO 5spd with an exhaust and he has a 91 maxima SE 5spd with a CAI, flywheel, clutch and a greddy sp exhaust and a Y-pipe...and the SHO kicked his ***. well that is a 94...if it was a earlier SHO it would have destroyed him. the older ones have more power and are lighter than the newer ones. so the SHO would win against a VG maxima with some mods. so there you go...
oh and i have done 140mph in my VG maxima 5spd. but then the limiter comes on.

According to your username you have turbo, so that's a little different.

A 5spd SHO versus a VG auto is no contest. If I were you, I would act hesitant about the race and get him to run up the bet. Then go destroy him.

F.Y.I His car goes to 60mph under 9.5 seconds on a good day and does the quarter in under 17 with a tailwind. Like I said, no contest.

I've done about 140 when my Max was stock, the only limiter they have doesn't even kick in at 140 unless you're in 3rd gear or something, it's a rev limiter to what? 6.5k stock I think.
Just took me an awfully LONG time to get there.

You can have my Lancer Turbo if your car can do 140 stock.

I believe the VE can, it has 30 more horsepower. The person saying he did 140 stock had a GXE (i.e. VG engine).

My Lancer does about 2MPH with the 3.0 motor and 9.86.1 gears.

Do you still want it?

It's amazing what a car can do with 30 miles of straight, flat nothing.

30 miles or 100 miles, you still cant overcome wind resistance, gearing and power limitations.
