Pulley Wheel

THE BIG PULLEY ON MY ENGINE ( LOWER LEFT SIDE- THINKS ITS THE CRANK PULLEY) IS MAKING A FUNKY SOUND, I'M GETTING A LOT OF EXTRA VIBRATION FROM IT. IT SEEMS THAT ITS NOT SPINNING COMPLETELY STRAIGHT LOOKS A LIL WOBBLEY . MY MECHANIC TOOK A LOOK AND SAID THE NOISE IS B/C THE PULLEY HAS TOO MUCH PLAY AND THAT I SHOULD CHANGE IT, BUT I HAVE NO IDEA IF HE'S RIGHT. SHOULD I JUST REPLACE IT WITH THE UNORTHODOX RACING PULLEY? ANYWAY TO STOP THE VIBRATION IN THE MEANTIME?

Sounds like it's unbalanced... damnable physics and centripital force...

I don't know what you can do about it but if you're replacing it... might as well go with UDs I guess...

Good luck...

You may need to get a more specific explanation from your mechanic. Many times a pully will look a little "wobbley" but is fine. If the pully has play and it is tightly bolted to the shaft that it turns, you may have a larger problem like a worn bearing/shaft. If you plan on doing an UD pully anyway, change it and see if it fixes the problem. Maybe have another Mechanic take a look before spending any money on new stuff and labor, it can't hurt. A crank pully seems like an unusual thing to be bent, but it certainly possible.

vibration stopped

I'll get another opinion even though that sound just stopped. I think it had something to do with the fact that I drained the power steering fluid when I changed the hose, because it started like 2min after the job and stopped a day after.. but i'm not sure so I'll still check it out
