WARNING: Rusty Seat Belt Mounts

I own a 1989 Nissan Maxima SE that i am parting out. Upon dissasembly i noticed that the rear seat, drivers side, upper seat belt mount was totally rusted through. One quick pull on the belt and the spool that holds the belt came completely off of its mount. If the car was in an accident, someone could have really gotten hurt. i dont know if people are aware of this problem but i felt i should make it aware to others just in case. i have a couple pictures at www.geocities.com/middleburyin/seatbelt.html

nissan will fix that..but since it's rotted out THAT much nissan may decide to total your car or not fix it at all.

lifetime warranty on the belts themselves and related components.

Guys I wouldnt hold my breath and expect Nissan to fix ANYTHING on our cars for free. To be completely honest they dont give a damn about a 3rd gen. I had the fuel filler rust my seatbelt mount. And basically they told me that they would total my car out and give me 1000 for it.

If you could do a SEARCH, which you can't, then you would find that few if any at all have had any luck getting this problem fixed. My solution was to install racing harnesses in the back seats. Unfortunately, this makes you or whoever installs the new belts legally liable.

it was salvage, so its not really a big deal. But the rust problems on these cars are pretty bad. both rear wheel wells opn my car have 4 or 5 holes in them.
