My car is haunted and HATES me
So I've had the stalling problem that a lot of 92 SEs have. I also have very hard shifting and I think the tranny is slipping. Well I've taking it to three different mechanics and it never acts up or even shifts hard for them. It shifts hard for me EVERYDAY.
Well the dealership did a diagnostics test and found nothing. It was running so bad I was sure the tranny was dead and took it to one of my mechanics. He said the car was running great; no stalling, no hard shifting, lot's of pickup.
I stopped by and drove the car myself. I swear to GOD, the car drove great. He didn't do anything to it, but it was running like my Mom's Lexus. I'm sure once I get it home it'll run like crap again.

I'll bet anything it's your mass air flow sensor, it's conveniently located downstream from your air filter. I just went through this with my '89, spent about $1000 trying to get it diagnosed properly (incorrect yet costly diagnoses included bad fuel injector, transmission slipping, and needed tuneup). It's not an especially expensive part if you buy aftermarket, try replacing the MAF and see what happens.

yeah just buy one off ebay or go to the junk yard and get one shouldnt spend more than 10 or 20 bucks and i had mine go out about 1 month ago and it would be faily sparatic sometimes it would run fine but most of the time it would run crapy although i dont have an auto so the hard shifting was normal
