NZ aerial replacement

NZ aerial replacement
This is kinda aimed at any New Zealand (and Aussie) Max owners but will probably work for all others...
When the aerial in your max stops working, it can be hard to find a replacement from a wrecker, and a genuine new aerial is $$$. One guy even told me no-one had successfully fitted another Nissan model electric aerial...
Today I just replaced my aerial with one from a used Jap import '89 U12 Bluebird (not sure if US got this car - possibly a Stanza). All I had to do was change the bottom mounting bracket and the aerial outer shaft / top mount and badabing! 20 minutes from start to finish. I got my replacement aerial from a wrecker that lets you take the parts off yourself. Cost: NZ$12 (The Bluebird aerial outer shaft is wider than the max but the aerial is the same width). The control / relay box is the same.
BTW, any Nissan rear mount electric aerial will work as long as they only have 2 wires that go to the aerial motor. Nissan Laurels have a third wire, a different control box & aerial lead connection.
For UK Nissans, try T12/T72 Bluebirds and early model Primera's.
For US Nissans, try the Infiniti 4 cylinder models of late 80s / mid 90's vintage as well.

NZ does have the VE's here. They are the import models, there's tons of them down here. I wish I knew about the different models of Maxi's when I bought mine. I can now tell the difference between mine & a import. Our turn signals are different.

We're lucky we didn't get VE engines in this gen of max - esp with their VTC problems. Gen 4 comes with VQ.
