Noise from front - help - wheel bearings?
recently ive started getting a noise coming from the front wheels.
It sound like i have a flat spot on my tires or theres a bit of mud in them. (dud dud dud dud dud). It gets faster as i go faster, it gets a bit louder when turning, and i cannot distinguish which side it is coming from.
Anyone got ideas? could it be the wheel bearings? i didnt think the bearings would make a noise like that.

It would be helpful to know how many miles you have and if there is vibration with the the "dud, dud, dud" sound. My passenger side front bearing went out at about 195,000 miles so I replaced both front bearings. The only indication I had that the bearings were worn out was a "whump, whump" sound on sweeping right turns. No moan and no vibration. BTW if you have to replace yours there is a very good DIY write up on this forum. I'd never replaced wheel bearings on any car and except for pressing out / pressing in bearing, I did it all myself.

righto heres an exact description.
wheels + tires are brand new, sound started on old wheels/tires.
its a 'dud dud dud' noise
it gets faster with speed
its quiet while running straight, much louder when turning left, slightly louder when turning right.
it might be a originating from the front right (cant decern properly)
it sorta sounds like the sound the back wheel bearings made when they went.. except this noise is a 'dud dud dud dud' instead of constant groany/grind.
cheers for the responses guys... im thinking it might be the bearings :/

I had that problem too... it didn't make noise when I was going straight but when went around a turn usually a right turn, some times a left, or I went over a bump to fast I would give me a loud "dud dud dud" louder and faster as speed increased... I fixed my noise by greasing the wheel locks on the power rack and pinion... it might be something you want to try, cheap and easy

wheel locks on the rack?
the rack usually is not associated w/ noise that occurs when the wheel is spinning..(ie getting louder/faster w/ speed)
back to the problem..it does sound like bearing.
since the bearings are starting to wear out spaces between the races are wearing out a bit too. when you turn (lateral load on bearing) it will increase noise...good sign the bearings are going. if the bearings have over 80K on them it's a safe bet those are it.
keep in mind i'm assuming your tie rods, ball joints, and struts are in good shape.
last ditch effort is try rotating the tires front to back and see if the noise is still there. if not..then it's your rims/tires set up. if it's still there then i would bite the bullet and pull the bearing.
