Remote Trunk Release Problems...
When I got my car it had this problem that the trunk would pop open every time the doors locked so I disabled the latch so it wouldnt work with the switch. Today when I went to work the latch started to malfunction and it would click like it was opening every 10 seconds and the button wouldnt work(not that it mattered) so I took the trunk apart and disconnected the wires from solenoid connected to the latch via cable(the unit was really hot, could barely handle it) and tested the wire for a current and it was live. So, here are my questions, is this wire susposed to be live all the time? I pulled every fuse in the car(that I could find) and could not get the current to change or make the wire go dead. Also if this wire is live all the time, when its not susposed to be, will it cause a fire or drain my battery quickly? Are there fuses in the door and would a faulty switch in the door cause a malfunction like this? Any ideas on this problem? Thanks in advance for the help.
i posted a really big post then i lost it because the server was too busy. in short, yes it could cause a fire, yes it will drain the battery. the trunk wire is probably shorting with the power lock wire in the door or hinge pilar so unplug the solenoid in the trunk for now and take apprt the door to se if there is anything going on there
Yeah I unplugged it immediatly when I took apart the trunk and left it like that yesterday. Today I got into the door and located the short, it was in an aftermarket alarm/ remote key fob reciever thing(don't know its proper name) that hadn't been properly disconnected, the trunk release was connected to a box that probably wouldhave operated with a fob on the keychain and that was causing both the short for the continuing click yesterday and the trunk popping open when the door was closed. It still locks when the door is closed but that is because I didn't disconect the locks from the aftermarket alarm/ remote keyfob thing, it doesnt bother me I always take my key out.
