Break in clutch?

I was told to do this, has everyone or anyone had to drive lightly for the first 7-800 miles to break in a new clutch? Sounds dumb but shouldnt the clutch be ready to go? what would happen if I just went ahead and fully tested it out asap? Thanks

Cripes man. How many closely related questions on the same subject can you post?

Clutch break in is a VERY commonly discussed subject. GOOGLE is your friend.

generally the break in period is 500 miles. if you're hard on it before it fully broken in you can create hot spots on the clutch and it won't grip at its maximum potential. i think that's how it all works.
