Remote start/Alarm with trunk release question??????????

me n my bro are waiting for the weather to become really nice, then work on my max will take effect once again. my current question is this......... i've seen new cars with keyless entry and trunk release. Notice how easily they lift up......? is this, how do we do that? do we add hydraulics? anyone got a MOV., mpeg. clip on how theres opens up with the push of that button? what did you guys do to make it open really smooth and easily? thanx again.........

you could use a counter balance or linear actuator

Speaking of remote trunk pop, how is everyone hooking up their remote trunk release, is there a relay in these things, or is it a high current switch only?

on the 92-94 models, it's electronic. I'm not sure how much juice is required, but spend the extra $1 to isolate the alarm with a relay anyway.

on the 89-91, I believe they have a manual pop- it's done by cable and not electronic... you'll have to install a solenoid in the trunk to use them with a remote.

I saw aftermarket "trunk release kits" sold on e-bay - shouldn't be too difficult to install:

early GXEs have the button too so only 89-91SE have the manual lever

most alarms give a negative output for trunk while most cars need a positive output so you'll need a relay to switch the polarity

I know its electronic, I design the electrical systems in all of Daimler Chrysler's concept cars, I was just curious if the system already has a relay or not, if it does, I just hook into that and call it good, if not, I use a relay. I have cases of relays (if anyone some, drop me a line).

Oh, and my 91 has the electonic trunk release too, probably cause it has the keypad entry system that pops the trunk as well.

Thanks!

Damon

on the GXEs with stock keyless entry, there is a relay which converts the negative signal at the keyless entry box (behind glove box) to a +. On the SEs, there is no relay, it is wired straight from the switch on the door to the solenoid (with a circuit breaker in line with the battery)

yep, my 89 GXE have the trunk pop button. I don't use it often. I have it disabled. (Kinda paranoid about people breaking my window, popping the trunk, then steal my speaker )

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you
