Engine Miss, not the coils...what next?
#1
I had developed a pretty serious engine miss in my SE and dealer speculated it might be a bad coil. So, I bought some used coils off NissMaxSE, he told me that they had about 50k on them, and installed them over the weekend. All was going well until today, and I got a brief hiccup once. So far, I've driven 200 miles with just the one blip. Previously, couldn't get 1-2 miles w/out a miss.
I know that the plugs were changed @ about 100k; I now have 128k. I'm not certain the guy put in spec plugs. My question to those of you out there that have experienced similar problems is what would you check next? Should I replace plugs? Or could there be another problem?
Any help from the experts out there would be appreciated. I'm not inclined to let the dealer try to figure out. They'll probably tell me I need a new engine...well, just kidding, but probably close. They are the ones that told me coil replacements was $1800...so you understand my apprehension.
Thanks!
Scott

replace plugs, use only nissan plugs, alsobosch makes the plugs for nissan but ive herd of problems with the ve engine that even the bosch named ones just arent the same as the nissan plugs, so if you have a ve go to nissan, p.s. never clean & reuse platnum plugs. if problem persists you might want to change the heat range, or v regulator

mine is doin something wierd, it's pulling kinda funny on acceleration. it's not a smooth pull through the rpm's. it's like a pull, not pull, pull harder, rev out. not really a miss, but more of a power loss. i know others are having this problem. i was gonna replace the plugs and O2 sensor, my motor doesn't clack or tick to indicate VTC failure. any ideas? timing maybe?
