KS replacement, round # 2
KS replacement, round # 2
Okay, I replaced the KS and harness but the harness was for the wrong vehicle and I modified the KS to fit and anyway the computer is still throwing a code. My question to you guys is, should I replace the whole knock sensor and harness again, or just the harness itself. This is the last step before I order the parts and tear into it so please respond quickly so that I can make this decision. Here is a thread that I discussed it in: https://maxima.org/forums/4th-generation-maxima-1995-1999/297653-would-high-flow-cat-pass-smog-california.html
I just don't want to have to do a KS round three. If I OHM out the KS itself and it ohms out at .550 M it should be okay right? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

What did you torque it down to? Knock sensors need to be torqued to a VERY precise spec or they will get false or no reading.
BTW, I ordered a new KS for mine along with all new injectors, some other junk, etc... the bill came out to 771 after tax!!! knock sensor and harness were 143.26.
I didn't really torque it down too hard because I didn't want it to be too sensative. I am taking it apart regardless, I just need to know if I should replace just the harness or the knock sensor too even though it is only 4 months old, maybe it was a bad one. What should it be torqued to anyway? I went by the writeup on 4dsc.com and he gave kind of an estimate as to what it should be torqued to. What is the exact spec?

yeah, actualy it does, and when I installed it, I ended up saying screw after tyring to get to 44, the damn thing kept turning as if I was about to crush it, so I stopped.
Does it still work okay? I was under the impression that it is kind of a delicate sensor and bolting it that tight might not be good for it. I just don't want to have to do this for the third time if I don't bolt it down to the right spec.
