engine burning oil
engine burning oil
OK, last engine I had tensioner took a dump and f**K up my valves. Had another engine put in with supposively 55k on it . Have had problem since it was put in by a engine machine shop. The injector connector and the MAF senor connector was corroded to along with temp sensor ect... So it took a minute for it to get running right and I told the clowns that the harness on the engine isn't the harness I had on my engine which had 220k on it and still running strong(I upkept it pretty good). They were trying to tell me that the connectors insulation brok off when they changed it over. Hell, the tape on the harness bar was never removed so I know it's a different harness.
Anyway ,the engine is burning oil and after around 2300 miles I notice a little noise, checked the engine and the oil level was a tad below the L. Added a little more than a quart to get it back up and the shop is trying to say that it is within limits of leaking oil 1QT per 1000 miles. That's alot of oil to be leaking I think. What is your take on this . ADVICE NEEDED!

Uh, worst possible answer. The molecules that make up synthetic oils are much smaller than those of conventional oil. Therefore, if you car burns regular oil it will burn much more synthetic oil. Since sythetic oil is 4x more expensive, that plan makes no sense.
Burning 1Qt of oil in 1000 miles is NOT acceptable. 1QT per 10,000 miles would not be ok. Chances are you have bad rings or worn cylinder walls, which is allowing oil to be pushed past the pistons and burned in the combustion chamber. You COULD fix it, but as cheap as you can find VGs in junk yards, I would just pick up another one.
