valve cover gasket replacement on 89 se

do you need any other parts, gaskets, etc. to replce both valve sover gaskets on an 89 se? It looks like you have to remove the fuel injection to get the front one off.

you don't have to pull the fuel injectors, but you DO have to pull the intake manifold and distributor. make sure you mark the exsact location of the distributor before you pull it out, otherwise you'll have a nightmare getting it set right again. (i.e. engine won't run).

also get new intake manifold gaskets and throttle body gaskets. about $15-20 I think for all of them.

but FIRST, try taking a #3 phillips and tightening all of the screws on the valve covers about a 1/4-- just snug them up again. that's fixed the leaks on a lot of people's cars.

definently, we did this last week on my buddys car. those screws were pretty loose...they definently needed some tightening. haven't asked him if its improved the leak yet, but as loose as the screws were I can assume it helped a whole lot

Dood, 346k?! yeah.. time for a few new parts!!

then again, if you touch it, it'll probably die!

pick up a few cans of throttle body cleaner and some stiff brushes and clean up the intake manifold while you've got it apart. probably run a lot better.
